Zak and I met in Sydney Australia, two Americans going to school across the globe. For Zak, it was love at first sight. For Me (Joy), it was friendzone at first sight. Zak told me he had strong feelings for me and would like to pursue a deeper relationship but I told him I didn’t feel the same way and couldn’t see that changing in the future. One night he kissed me out of nowhere, then, for me, it was love at first kiss. On our one year anniversary he told me he knew of a romantic restaurant by the water on the other side of the Sydney Harbour Bridge. We walked up to an area where there were fairy lights in the shape of a heart, candles, champagne and our scrapbook we made together. He said he originally had a speech to give me but the second he got down on one knee he started crying, used my full name and said “will you marry me?”
Then our 10 closest friends came out from around the corner shouting “congratulations!” The guys all shouted “He’s out of the friendzone forever!!” That’s how they asked!
