Zack and Katie's Proposal at a Historic Virginia Beach Hotel
How We Met: In the summer of 2011, Zack and I met through mutual friends at a party. We dated briefly but decided to go our separate ways because I had to go back to school at Radford University and Zack lived in Arlington, VA. We kept in touch and remained friends. He even continued to send me flowers and Georgetown Cupcakes in the mail. Then in the fall of 2012, I had finished my degree and was moving back to Northern Virginia. I was craving P.F. Chang’s when I posted a Facebook status practically begging someone to take me there. Zack was a very willing volunteer and the rest is history.
how they asked: In June of 2014, I was hosting a bridal shower for a close friend at Zack’s and my home in Virginia Beach, VA. The plan was that after the shower had ended, a few of us girls were going to meet our significant others out for drinks and a nice dinner. Zack had asked me to wear a specific outfit and I reluctantly obliged.
As we are walking out the front door, I am met with a glass of champagne and a limo. I quickly shoot my friends the “What the heck is going on look” and they just smile and shove me in the limo and tell me that they will meet me there.
So now I am sitting in a limo by myself and find a note from Zack that reads “I bet you are wondering why you are in a limo, but don’t worry, I will see you soon.” I begin to connect the dots that Zack is either about to propose or I am riding in a limo by myself for no reason. I start to chug the champagne.
The limo pulls up the very beautiful Historic Cavalier Hotel and there waiting is Zack. He walks me up to the hotel and as we turn the corner, I see our friend/fabulous photographer, Jami, snapping pictures and I immediately begin crying. Zack starts talking about something along the lines of spending our lives together but all I can hear is my own pounding heartbeat. He gets down on one knee and presents the most stunning ring I have ever seen. I say “YES!” and jump into his arms.
He then says I have one more surprise for you and points to another part of the building where all our friends and family had been hiding and waiting to come running around the corner to congratulate us! My parents and brother had traveled down from Northern Virginia to be with us on our special day and I could not have been more surprised or happy. We then all headed to a restaurant called Catch 31 to celebrate and show off the ring!
