How We Met: How we met: Zach and I met while I was in paramedic school through a mutual friend in my class. Our first date, Zach took me to a favorite Italian restaurant of mine and we hit it off so well we decided not to end the night and go for a midnight ride to the beach. Once there, he pushed me on a swing set located on the beach under the stars as we asked each other questions about our likes and dislikes, trying to get to know each other more. Two weeks later he asked me to be his girlfriend and we’ve been together for the past 4 years now. We’ve become best friends and I feel so grateful that he friend requested me twice on Facebook hoping I would go out on that first date with him!
how they asked: We had been talking about getting married for a while and even looked at rings so I knew an engagement wasn’t too far off in the future but had no clue he would ask me when he did! Knowing my love of gardens Zach and his older sister Mikkel asked if I wanted to go The Planting Fields, an old mansion site with beautiful gardens and greenhouses. I of course said yes. Side note: it’s not unusual for Mikkel to ask Zach and I to hang out when she’s in town so she can snap photographs for scrap booking since she is a professional photographer! It was July 14th and it was a drizzly day except for the single hour we walked around the Planting Fields. While taking pictures along the way and looking at the flowers we walked to a pool that was on the grounds and I was walking slightly ahead of Zach and Mikkel unaware that they were signaling behind me that “this is the spot”. Zach handed me a medium sized wrapped box and said he had got me a present. I thought this was weird but still did not thing it had anything to do with a proposal!
I unwrapped the box and found more and more boxes wrapped inside of one another, all empty. When I opened the last box and found it empty I was especially confused but I knew he must have something special to give to me. He then pulled out the real ring box from his pocket and got down on one knee. I was so shocked that I’m still not sure what he said exactly other than “I love you” and “will you marry me?”
My ears were ringing and I couldn’t do anything but say yes and hug him. I felt like I couldn’t even stand up from the spot I was sitting in, I was in such a state of shock. Thankfully Mikkel was there to capture the whole thing with her camera! The rest of the day I felt like I was in a daze (The good kind). The surprises continued as the night went on. Zach took me to a steak house to celebrate and our families met us there for dessert. I was so shocked that everyone knew Zach was proposing that day AND they showed up at the restaurant to celebrate with us. Zach and I are excited to house hunt within the next year and start planning for a summer wedding in 2017!
