Yana and Ruslan
How We Met
Ruslan and I met two summers ago when I came to stay with my cousin Irina and her husband, Kiril in California for a month. We spent a lot of time hanging out and getting to know each other throughout the month. The day before flying back home to Washington, he asked me to be his girlfriend and the rest is history.
How They Asked
The night before my 21st birthday Ruslan flew in from Sacramento, California to visit me in Spokane, Washington. My birthday started off with us having brunch and visiting all of our favorite places in Spokane. Little did I know that while he spent the entire day distracting me, my cousin, Irina and her husband Kiril were secretly flying in from Sacramento to set up and photograph our special moment.
After he put the ring on my finger and hugged me, I heard a continuous clicking noise. I looked to my left and saw Irina and Kiril hiding behind a tree and photographing us. I screamed and couldn’t believe my eyes! Irina ran up to me and we stood there screaming and crying from joy and admiring my beautiful ring. I was overwhelmed with so many emotions and could not believe that they were there and that they helped Ruslan plan such a romantic proposal.
Once it was getting close to sunset, Ruslan drove us to a little park near my house and lead me out to a view of the Spokane River. That was when I saw the most beautiful picnic set up. As we walked closer and closer the tears started flowing because I knew what was coming. As we got to the picnic area, he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. Of course, I said YES!
The sun began to quickly set so Ruslan and I sat down and enjoyed all of the goodies on the charcuterie board and just took a moment to take it all in. We ended this perfect moment with a good ol’ champagne pop and then watched the sunset over the beautiful mountains of Spokane. Everything was so perfect, and I will treasure this day and these photos for forever.
