Ashley and William
How We Met
Billy and I first met while we were Juniors in college at Central Michigan University. Fire Up Chips! He was in a fraternity and I was in a sorority. We kept running into each other and texted here and there but it wasn’t until mutual friends started telling me we would be good together that we started to hang out more.
Our first date was at a coffee shop on campus and I remember we both were SO nervous. He did make me laugh a lot on that first date and I started to think maybe this would turn into something more. We kept hanging out for a few weeks staying up until 2-3am talking and laughing.
I remember sitting on the swing in front of our sorority house together late at night and I knew I was falling for him. On November 7th, 2009 he decided to take me on a date night to Ruby Tuesdays. He showed up to the sorority house and I remember being extremely nervous wondering if he would ask me to be his girlfriend.
\I walked into the living room and started laughing because we were wearing similar outfits. We went out to dinner and then back to his apartment. He then asked me if I wanted to be his girlfriend and of course I said YES!
Next came date parties, formals, graduations, new careers, sporting events, surgeries, vacations, getting an apartment together, etc. We’ve been together for 7 years and have grown up together through all the ups and downs. Billy is my first and only love.
He’s my best friend, he makes me laugh every day and my life wouldn’t have been the same without him the last seven years and I can’t imagine spending the rest of my life with anyone else.

how they asked
On July 23rd, 2016 Billy and I headed to Downtown Detroit for an early birthday celebration that I had planned for him since I was going to be out of town for his actual birthday the following week. We started the night off at Two James Distillery in Corktown for some whiskey tasting.
Looking back I remember Billy kept checking his phone and going to the bathroom but I just thought he was checking the scores to baseball games since he’s always on top of his sports! Once we were done with our drinks we decided to drive downtown. I had made dinner reservations at a restaurant called Joe Muer Seafood in the Ren Cen overlooking the Detroit River.
I suggested to Billy a few weeks before that we should walk the Detroit Riverwalk since it was right by the restaurant and I was hoping the weather would be nice. Well we couldn’t have asked for better weather because it was a beautiful 78 degree summer day in Michigan. As we were driving to the Renaissance Center I noticed Billy missed the parking garage twice.
However, I was still oblivious to what was really going on! We finally parked and headed down to walk by the river. After taking a few selfies and snapchats (of course) I put my phone in my purse and then next thing I know Billy was down on one knee saying he had a question to ask me and the ring was in his hand!
I couldn’t believe it! I immediately started shaking and asked if he was joking hahaha! He asked me if I would marry him and I said YES!!!
I started to cry and we kissed and hugged as people around us clapped and cheered for us.
The next thing I know I see Billy’s brother Chris and his best friend Taylor. They were hiding the entire time and were taking pictures and a video of the entire proposal!
It was awesome to have them apart of the plan and to have the pictures they took that we will forever cherish!
Afterwards we celebrated at Joe Muer Seafood with some filet mignon and champagne!
It was a perfect summer day in downtown Detroit and the best day of our lives (so far)!!!
