Wil and Jordan
How We Met
Wil and I met on July 4th, 2009 he had just graduated high school and I was about to start my senior year. His aunt and uncle have been good friends with my parents for years but Will and I had never met, so when his 4th of July plans fell through he decided to come with his aunt and uncle to my family’s beach house in Atlantic Beach to take the boat to watch the fireworks. Now to back up, his aunt and uncle had been saying for years that we’d be a perfect match and jokingly I always said “well, let me meet him!”, two years after they first told me that he showed up at our house and I couldn’t take my eyes off him! Even my mother said, ” Jordan, you better date that boy!”.
Well the first night we met I tried my best to get him to talk, he’s very reserved when you first meet him but the attraction was mutual and although not much was said, he got my number from his aunt and two weeks later FINALLY texted me. From there on out we were inseparable, we dated my entire senior year, then I went to another state for college and although the distance and our schedules were tough we made through, after college I got a good job, bought a house, he finished college and started his job. Eight years after that July 4th he took me back to the place we first met and got down on one knee.
how they asked
On October 7th, 2017 we were back in Atlantic Beach at my family’s house for a beautiful weekend on the water. It may be October but it was 85 degrees, sunny and one of the prettiest weekends I had seen in a while. Four of our best friends were down there the same weekend (little did I know but that was specifically planned!) and we had dinner with them Friday night and all together made plans to go out to Cape Lookout lighthouse on the boat the next day. Wil and I, along with our friends Anna and her husband Jason ended up taking Jason’s boat to the Cape thinking our other friends Aaron and Leslie were meeting us there. When Aaron called and asked where we were we realized there had been a miscommunication and they thought we were meeting them at the house. No big deal however, they got on the boat with my parents and we all agreed to meet in the middle at another island, Shackleford Banks (otherwise known as Shack). Little did I know Aaron was holding onto the ring for Wil and I had absolutely NO clue what was about to happen later that day. We all ended up meeting on Shack about lunchtime and spent the entire afternoon talking, laughing, playing in the water and spending a beautiful day with friends, it was truly a perfect fall day. Towards the end of the day I took my yellow lab, Carte on a walk down the beach to throw sticks for him and let him swim. As I turned around to head back to where our group was I saw Wil walking towards me. Thinking he was just coming to see what I was doing he started walking next to me so I started asking about our dinner plans when he told me he had a question. When I turned to look at him, I happened to notice our big group of friends staring at us from farther down the beach and that was when I started to think “oh my goodness” my eyes started to tear up and before I could grasp what was happening Wil is down on one knee, with Carter standing next to him, telling me how much he loves me.
At this point I’m sobbing and apparently backing away because I couldn’t believe what was happening. Through tears I think all I did was shake my head yes and he put the ring on my hand, we hugged and turned around to all of our best friends and family running towards us in tears themselves. I’m pretty sure my mom cried for 24 hours straight. It was truly the perfect moment, in the perfect place, with the most perfect weather and the people we love most.
The only person missing was my best friend since 9th grade, Rebekah, she was the first person I called and when I Facetimed her to tell her she got in the car immediately and was with us in time for a celebratory dinner. To make the day even more special, Wil had designed the ring with Jason’s father who owns a local jewelry store and they couldn’t have done a more amazing job! It truly couldn’t have been a more perfect setting for us as a couple and I can’t wait to marry the man I’ve loved since I was 17 years old.
