How We Met
We met in Atlanta on July 4th, 2014 when our Independence Day pool parties combined. Whitney made the first move — per Florian — but he was the one who gave her a little plastic heart he found on the ground as something to “remember him by” — always the romantic.
We cherish a picture from that night holding sparklers towards each other, shall we say, lighting a fire in our eyes, and have made a promise to retake the picture every year. Five years later, we look forward to having a sparkler exit at our wedding to commemorate the moment it all began.
How They Asked
Whitney is a big fan of surprises so she’d been planning Florian’s surprise “golden” birthday, 30 years old on the 30th of September, since January of 2018 – his first-ever trip to Mexico. On the morning of their flight, Whitney woke him up at 5 AM, dancing to La Bamba with a sombrero on. Then the trip of a lifetime started. We enjoyed the weather, food, drinks, entertainment, and luxury of a beautiful Mexican resort…then Florian’s 30th birthday came. As luck would have it, we’d forgotten to put the room service order card out the night before so we were rushing to have breakfast before a surprise massage. After an incredibly relaxing (for Whitney…Florian was a little nervous) experience at the spa, Florian asked to take some “birthday” pictures on the beach before we got settled at the pool for the day. As Whitney went to pose, she turned to find Florian on one knee beside her for the ultimate birthday surprise.
