Victoria and Tyler

How They Asked

My best friend and previous roommate asked me to hang out Sunday afternoon. We always used to get out nails done so this was completely not out of the ordinary. Even before Tyler and I started dating I asked him to get coffee after class and study for an upcoming exam. Tyler, of course, said yes but later texted me canceling plans. We continued to make plans and none of them actually came to pass. Ashley my friend said she’d love to visit a coffee shop in Norfolk, how could I say no.

We went ahead and ordered our coffee, mine was a vanilla latte of course. We then sat by the front door and she started snapping pictures. I looked towards Ashley to take a picture of her and I could see she was looking behind me. I turned around and there he was. I initially asked him why he was here and he simply said: “come here”. He pulled me into the center of the coffee shop near the door and asked me to be his wife.

I remember a few whispers and a few “oh my god he’s proposing” but at that moment the world went silent and the moment I dreamed of since I was a little girl was unwinding right in front of me. Seeing Tyler on one knee and telling me how much he loved me felt like a million years, then all of a sudden – I said yes and the whole coffee shop erupted in claps and cheers. I couldn’t imagine my life with anyone else but him.
