How We Met
Out of the blue, I had a good friend message me asking if I was single. I was. She said that her boyfriend’s roommate was newly single and that she thought we should go to dinner and meet. So, we went on a date. I’ve never been on a more awkward first date and I’ve never left a date feeling so unsure if the guy would even text me later that night. I tried to stay open-minded and decided to give it another chance a few nights later and I’m so glad that I did! We ended up taking for hours and hours and I start feeling more and more of a connection the more time we spent together that night. Neither of us was from the Traverse City area but both moved her me for work around the same time. We ended up seeing each other basically every day and making it official in July of 2016. We love telling people that our friends set us up and that it basically was a blind date. Some things are just meant to be and everything always happens for a reason!
how they asked
We made last minute plans to walk the Mackinac Bridge with my dad, his girlfriend, and some friends for the annual Labor Day bridge walk. We were up in Mackinaw City by 6:30 AM to start walking at 7. We made our way across the bridge to St. Ignace (5 miles) and started to turn around and walk back to Mackinaw City. He said, “Hey, let’s get a picture!” The background was beautiful with the water and the sun had just come up. Everyone took their phones out, I didn’t think anything of it. I said, “Okay, I think there’s plenty of pictures!” Shawn replied “Well, everyone is here.
Your dad, your best friends, and even your mom.” (My mom passed away from cancer almost a year ago and he had a picture of her in the back of his phone while someone was using it to take pictures so that she could be there for the engagement as well) I instantly started getting emotional knowing something was going on. That’s when he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him! I was so shocked and surprised that I didn’t answer until he said “Please?!?!”
I couldn’t imagine the proposal any other way. It honestly was so perfect!
