How We Met
It was 2008, Anthony and I had just started our freshman year of high school. We had a few classes together, and soon became acquaintances, but that’s all we were. There were a few times during our high school years that we had liked each other, but we were from two different crowds. He was the quarterback, I was in choir and drama club; things just didn’t work out. It wasn’t until the summer after our freshman year of college that we had reconnected, and shortly started dating June 2013.
how they asked
Back in January, my mom had told me that she wanted to take a family trip to New York City, I was so excited! Fast forward four months, and our family trip turned out to be one of the best weekends of my life…
It was a perfect spring day in New York City. The sky was a cloudless blue, the sun was shining, and my family and I had just arrived from Pittsburgh to my favorite city in the world. The only thing that was missing was Anthony. He was away at school and couldn’t take the time out of the operating room to join us. Even so, I was enjoying the family time. We walked all around the city. We went to the top of the Empire State Building, Rockefeller Center, The World Trade Center, Times Square, and so many other places you want to see when you go to The Big Apple. After going back to the hotel and getting ready for dinner, we decided we would go to MY favorite part of the city before we went to the restaurant; The Bethsdea Terrace in Central Park.
I walked down the steps to the fountain, and as I turned the corner; I saw him. He walked out from behind a pillar with the biggest smile on his face, and said “Hi Victoria.”. I was shocked, and so confused. I couldn’t believe he was standing there. He walked up to me, took my hands and walked me over to where he had laid out rose petals. He told me how much he loved me, then did the one thing that all girls wait for their entire life; he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him.
Of course I said “YES!”. There was a huge crowd of people in the park that started cheering for us, it was truly a surreal moment.
Just when I thought he was all out of surprises, I heard another voice I recognized. I turned around, and saw his parents standing with my family, and they were all crying. I feel so blessed that we got the share one of the biggest days of our lives with the people who have been there for us since day one. We then got to spend the entire weekend together with both of our families making memories. We plan to be married October 2017 in Central Park, and I can’t wait to be the future Mrs. Rizzitano!
