how we met
Andrew and I met through a mutual friend who went to medical school with Andrew. We became very close as friends. I was living in Orlando at the time and had no family in the area, whereas Andrew’s family lived very close by. Every holiday I couldn’t go back to New Jersey to be with my big Italian family, I would spend it with his big Italian family; Easter, Halloween, New Years.. you name it. As I grew to love his family, our bond as friends grew as well.
After a few years went by, I was looking for a new apartment and Andrew had a spare bedroom in his so I rented it out for about a year…our friendship continued to grow.
After a year of living together I moved back to New Jersey to pursue a career in NYC and Andrew moved to South Carolina to begin his surgical residency. We reconnected at his sister’s wedding just a few months later which was on a cruise out of Port Canaveral; and that was the moment we’d realized how we couldn’t stand to be apart. It wasn’t until we moved away from each other that we realized that 5 years of friendship was really 5 years of true love. Months after we discovered this, I dropped everything to move to South Carolina to be with the love of my life.
how they asked
Andrew and I had planned a trip to New York City to celebrate our “One Year Anniversary” of the date that we realized we were, and had been, in love. Andrew’s family is originally from New York and mine is from New Jersey, so we were excited to be together in a place that has meant so much to each of us growing up. Andrew planned a full day of walking around Central Park, which I had surprisingly never seen. He first took me to the Central Park zoo, the conservatory gardens, and many other beautiful and historic landmarks within the park. We had a beautiful day sharing laughs and fun in a setting that is totally “us”. He then took my hand and said “hurry up we are on a crunch”… I had no idea what we could’ve been rushing to go see. As it started raining, he explained to me how there was this beautiful hiking area in Central Park with a waterfall that we needed to see. One of our favorite activities as a couple is to go hiking to the waterfalls in Upstate South Carolina, so I knew it would be special for us to see this together in NYC. As we approached the waterfall, Andrew pulled me in front of him and began to tell me how he never knew it was possible to be so happy. He dropped down on one knee and asked me if I would be his beautiful bride. I never knew how magical life could be until falling in love with this man. For me, this was an absolute fairytale, and I am so lucky to call this man my forever. Not only was it the most beautiful proposal, that night he surprised me by inviting all of my family and friends, as well as his family who flew in, to a private dinner at an intimate Italian restaurant in NYC.
