How We Met
We met in 2011, at the airport. I used to work at the Nike store (just before I could start college) and this one evening Mahendra walked into the store and went straight through to the Manchester United kits, so I asked him if he needed any assistance and well, we got chatting. Ever since that night he would come to the store and purchase an item just so he could get to talk to me.. it was the cutest ever!
Fast forward to 2014, he asked me to be his girlfriend, and what an amazing journey it has been.
How They Asked
A million times YES! So this happened on the 29/02/2020.. it was the last day of me being 26.. our 5 years and 5-month anniversary.. & a “leap day”. 💖
My leave was planned because my birthday is on the 1st of March, and I did my nails as I always do for my birthday. Mahendra had told me two weeks prior that his colleague from work was getting married on the 29th of February, and he had also booked a formal photoshoot for us prior to the wedding since we will be all dressed up, we could “kill two birds with one stone” was what he chuckled, because that’s exactly what I had done previously. So according to him, the wedding was going to be at 5 pm, and he booked our photoshoot for 3 pm.
On the 24th of February, he delivered two dresses and asked me to “choose one to wear for the wedding”.
We don’t live together, and our careers have us working odd shifts, where sometimes we only get to see each other once a week. However, the week prior to the 29th he visited me every day, at home and at work.
On the morning of the 29th, he accompanied me to the temple like always, and then accompanied me to my hair and makeup appointment, where he patiently waited for me. He has always been romantic, from making a sign in 2014 with seashells (because I love them) which read “Will you be my girlfriend?” and a bouquet of roses, with all of me by John Legend playing out loud.. he always wrote me poems, even a book, and many random love notes.. but never did I expect this.. it was the most surreal moment!
On our way for the “photoshoot”, he pulled over and said he has a little surprise for me, and then proceeded to blindfold me, he’s such a funny and random guy, so I assumed that he was going to do something hilarious. He drove a few km ahead, and then opened the door, guided me through a pathway and lead me down a staircase to the sound of the ocean, a guitar playing and a female singing “all of me, loves all of you” by John Legend, and he whispered “baby, only open your eyes when I count to 3” and he proceeded to open the blindfold, AND of course I couldn’t help but open my eyes, I even forgot about what he had just said.
It was honestly such a dream, I remember first seeing the ocean, and the most romantic setup, I was in total awe. There was a canvas of what was made to look like him proposing to me, a videographer, the musician from the band 2unique who I simply adore (and had made mention of it to him once), a photographer.. and as I turned around, there was Mahendra Reddy, my amazing husband to be, down on one knee, asking for my hand in marriage, telling me how amazing I am and how much he loves me.. with the most gorgeous ring in a silk red rose, embedded in a beautiful seashell… Everything was so magical!
As if that was not mindblowing enough, on the 1st of March, the morning of my birthday, my now fiance came home with roses, balloons, and a birthday gift.. the gift box was a beautiful canon mirrorless camera. He had asked me to switch it on.. and when I did, there was the video of our fairytale proposal 🥺❤
