How We Met
William and I met in the 8th grade and became good friends the summer before high school. We would talk through Facebook since I wasn’t even allowed to text yet, and the conversations were mostly emoji spamming.
When we would pass each other in the hallways of high school we’d high five each other and that’s the most contact we’d get at age 14. I knew I liked him a lot and was excited that our school planned a trip to Dorney Park right before Halloween. We had the same friend group so when we got there, he pulled me aside and asked me to date him on October 21st, 2011.
How They Asked
William wanted to take me on a vacation this summer before I start my doctoral program, and obviously Covid-19 had made it hard for us to pick a place. We settled on Hilton Head Island, and we went to see the Harbourtown Lighthouse. We were walking along a stone path with a beautiful view of the water and lighthouse, and then he stopped walking, told me how much he loved me and how he couldn’t live without me.
He got down on one knee, pulled out the most beautiful ring, and I said yes! If you’d told me when I was 14that I would’ve started dating my future husband, I would’ve thought you were crazy. But we’ve been together for almost 9 years now, and I’m more in love with him with each passing day.
