How We Met
Our love story began in New York City, where the serendipitous opening of elevator doors, led to plans for coffee where I would tell Nathan about my secondment to Sydney, from which I had recently returned. Nathan (who of course being Australian and having lived in Sydney before) saw this as the perfect opportunity to get to know me. Time must have been standing still, since, what was meant to be a 30-minute catch-up over “Flat Whites” between client meetings turned into hours of conversation and plans for a follow-up date.
After several months dating in NYC, we decided to move across the globe to Sydney, Australia where I had a work opportunity that I couldn’t refuse and Nathan would be returning to his home country. I knew I would regret not taking this opportunity, and two years later, it’s turned into the best decision I’ve ever made. I am thankful to have Nathan by my side through it all and we are grateful to have found our dream location in Manly Beach!
How They Asked
After nearly two years of us moving to Sydney, Nathan asked me to go on a picnic and coastal drive along the picturesque Northern beaches (nothing unusual given we live steps away from the beach). We first stopped at Little Collins beach (which is typically very quiet and secluded) but to Nathan’s despair it was teeming with people given the beautiful weather at the time; not quite the intimate moment he had planned for! I didn’t think much of it at the time when he then suggested a short drive to the stunning Curl Curl Beach where it was just us and a handful of other people in the far distance.
We ate snacks and talked for an hour until he stood me up, looked me in the eyes and said how happy I’ve made him over the past few years and wanted to spend the rest of his life with me. We hugged, cried and shared this moment in such a beautiful and intimate way that I couldn’t have even dreamed of. As cliche as it may sound, we walked along the beach holding hands afterward basking in the sunlight and beach backdrop. We are now planning a wedding in Hawaii and we couldn’t be more excited!
