Vanessa and Brandon
How We Met
We met 5 years ago at bar in Boulder called Absinthe House. It was towards the end of a night out with my friend Claire, getting ready to head home, and he approached me as I was at the door.
how they asked
I need to preface this story by telling you that we are 100% crazy about our precious and perfect Border Collie mix, Zoey. She is our world. It was almost her 7th birthday, when Brandon told me that he hired a photographer so we could get pictures taken for her birthday. When I tell this story, a lot of people ask if I suspected something was up when he said this…NOT AT ALL. Again, we are the people who find it totally normal to go have a photo shoot for our dog’s golden birthday. It was perfect because I had just been telling him at Christmas that I wished we had professional pictures of us to put on Christmas cards. He told me to call my parents and see if they wanted to come and have some pictures taken, since he hired the photographer for an hour. They said they would love to, and drove to our apartment so we could all head to Boulder together. I later found out they were in on the whole thing.
Boulder is special to us for a few reasons. It’s where we met, went to school (GO BUFFS!), and where I adopted Zoey. It had snowed the day before so the ground and flatirons were covered, and provided a beautiful background for our pictures. We got to Chautauqua and met our wonderful photographer, Nina. We jumped right in and started taking pictures; my parents with Zoey, us with Zoey, just Zoey, etc. Next thing I knew, Brandon pulled me aside and started saying things that I am sure were beautiful, but the minute he started talking and took my hands in his, I went into shock. Before I knew it, he was down on one knee asking me to marry him. BEST MOMENT EVER. I later read his speech on a note in his phone, and I can confirm that it was perfect. I absolutely love that he included Zoey and my parents, and that we have pictures to document that amazing day.
