How We Met
After being single for about a year and a half, I had finally come to the point in my life where I became healed, whole, content in who I am, gotten closer to God & my family, and overall felt unexplainable peace & joy. I remember thinking to myself one day and telling God: ‘man, I am so happy with being single…I could do this for another year or so…’ Then a few weeks after thinking this, in walks this wonderful man by the name of James A. Steadman III into my life. As happy and content as I was, James came into my life and added onto my joy! During my season of singleness, my friends always pushed me to be open to alternative ways of putting myself ‘out there’ yet I was always hesitant about online dating. But one day, I finally mustered up the courage to make an online profile.
FOR JUST 1 WEEK. I promised myself to delete my account after 1 whole week. Of course, came the countless and typical messages like: ‘hey what’s your favorite color? ‘wanna grab some drinks? ‘what’s your sign’ ‘oooh girl you so fine why are you single?!’ (don’t mean to toot my own horn but, hey that was an awesome question lol) yet NOT ONE guy asked to actually speak to me over the phone, prior to meeting up in person. ON THE VERY LAST DAY OF THAT WEEK, I got yet another typical message BUT this time, in the middle of our messaging conversation, MY FUTURE HUSBAND asked me if it was alright for him to call me to talk….OVER THE PHONE! (Shocking, I know).
Long story short, that conversation lasted for about 3 ½ hours and the rest is history! James and I physically met for the first time, after conversing and getting to know one another for about 2-3 weeks, September 4th, 2016. On September 1st, 2017, (close to one year afterwards) the man of my dreams & my best friend asked me to be his wife. I have never felt happier and excited to spend the rest of my life with this man. I cannot wait to be the next Mrs. Valerie Steadman!!!
how they asked
SO my lovely girlfriends planned to have a Girls Night Out on September 1st, which was also to celebrate my birthday (on September 8th). We decided to celebrate my birthday then, since my best friend who lives in N.Y, wouldn’t be here to celebrate with me on my actual birthday. Unbeknownst to me, this GNO was going to be the night that my fiancé would propose to me… not only in front of my girlfriends, but in front of MY ENTIRE FAMILY AND FRIENDS.
My friends tend to be late. TO EVERYTHING, so this night, as I got ready to meet up with my girls, I took my sweet time and made sure that I wasn’t on time to the restaurant…Mind you, close to 18 people were already at the restaurant waiting on my arrival. I ARRIVED AROUND 9 O’CLOCK…they all were waiting since about 7:45pm.
Once I arrived, my sister and about 5 of my girlfriends greeted me outside the restaurant. We took pictures and selfies as if we weren’t in a rush to meet 18 people hahaha… We finally walked to the back of the restaurant to our table, where I was welcomed by the biggest surprise of my life thus far! All thanks to my beautiful friend, Melissa Bienaime for this wonderful gift.
