How We Met
Kevin and I met in college at a bible study called “Lifegroup.” We were in the same friend circle and our paths crossed quite often. About a year and half later, I asked Kevin to come help lead at a youth camp I was interning for. This was an incredible summer where for the first time in my life, I wasn’t worried about dating or finding my person.. I was just loving serving students. But God had Kevin coming all along. After just a few days of spending intentional time getting to know him and laughing with him, I was smitten. We built up a solid friendship from the rest of the summer until October when Kevin asked me on our first date. I was more than ready to date him by that point. But I loved the way we did it. We took our time, we prayed through every step and we became the best of friends while falling so deeply in love with each other. I graduated soon after that and moved to Houston, leaving Kevin behind to graduate a couple of months later. Long distance is hard, but we never wavered. Everything, every step has become so natural with Kevin. Being with him is as easy as breathing. He makes life sweeter, more fun & he makes me better.
I can honestly say I’ve been seeing life as an even greater adventure and laughing harder ever since.
how they asked
Kevin and I dated for a year and a half before getting engaged. We never really spoke about marriage or planned out things because a) I like surprises & b) I just always wanted to live in the moment with Kev and not worry about the future. So I had literally no idea that the proposal was coming and as I’m typing this, I still can’t believe he managed to meet up with my dad, coordinate with my friends, plan it all & design the most beautiful ring with the help of my friends, ALL without me knowing!
Kevin cooked the most romantic dinner and set up his apartment balcony so beautifully. He had hung string lights everywhere, set up a bistro table, lit a candle path to the balcony.. It was magical. He gave me a book full of pictures of places we dream of going to together. We have been sending each other pictures of places every night since we started dating. The last page of the book was us. Then he brought out coffee and we just listened to music and drank coffee & reminisced on how this past 1.5 years together has been the best of the best. I got to the bottom of my coffee and there was writing in my mug. I froze. Kevin got down on his knee and said the kindest words I’ve ever heard. He told me he loved me for the first time ever (which is something we never talked about, but I prayed my husband would never tell me unless he was proposing) and asked me to spend forever with him. I of course said yes and couldn’t think of any words to say.. We kept saying “I love you” and just were overcome with so much joy.
Downstairs our family and friends were waiting to come up and celebrate us. It’s been a dream come true.
