Trisha and Alex

How We Met

We met as neighbors! I moved into the apartment below Alex’s. We met for the first time when he was moving my new couch up the stairs for me. Our other neighbors schemed for about a year to get him to ask me out, and he finally did in the laundry room! Very romantic! The rest is history.

One of our favorite days we’ve spent together was when we stopped in Traverse City on a whim on our way home from a wedding up north. We had time to kill and spent the day going wine tasting and walking the trails on the Old Mission Peninsula. It was one of the first warm, sunny days of the spring and we remember not being able to keep our hands off each other! It was one of our favorite days to date. Alex also wants to add one of his favorite memories (which is not one of mine haha)- Alex had a health scare at the end of last year and was in the hospital for a week or so with what we now know is a heart condition. I stayed at the hospital with him and would not leave his side after he tried ordering me to, even to shower or go home to sleep. :) He says that in my refusal to take orders from him, he could know we could go through anything life throws at us and make it out the other side ok.

How They Asked

On the day of the proposal, I thought we were going out to dinner with Alex’s brother and sister-in-law, but Alex said he wanted to go for a walk through the Aquinas campus beforehand. This wasn’t anything too out of the ordinary for us, since we frequently go on walks there. It was, however, pitch black and drizzling! I was still clueless. As we were walking, he got down on one knee and popped the question! Then he surprised me with a gathering at his sister’s house with all of our family and friends! It was a really special evening.
