How We Met
Jonas and I met all the way back in 2002 when we started kindergarten together! We had the same teachers for half of elementary school, went to the same birthday and pool parties, and played house together (or so he says!). We were always acquaintances and continued to have classes together all throughout middle and high school, but didn’t really talk or hang out regularly.
Our sophomore year of high school, we had one class together and ate lunch in a group every other day. After Christmas break, I developed a major crush and decided to give him my cell phone number. We started talking more and texting every day. We decided to go on our first date on March 1, 2013, and it was hard to find us apart after that. He asked me to be his girlfriend on April 18, 2013, and we have been inseparable ever since.
How They Asked
As my college graduation was getting close and Jonas and I were nearing six years together, I was becoming pretty antsy to be engaged. We discussed it and I knew it would happen one day, but Jonas had me convinced it was still a few years away. I also knew I wanted my gift to myself to be a golden retriever puppy. I was obsessed with the idea, but Jonas was not a fan. Anytime I showed him puppy litters, he acted annoyed and like it was the worst idea. Little did I know the plan he had up his sleeve… In October, Jonas mentioned his mom wanted to take some family photos soon. I remember thinking it was strange because in the 5 years we had been together, his family never took professional photos.
We ended up deciding on November 16, which was a Friday so Jonas would have to leave work early. I thought this was so weird because Jonas usually never leaves work early. On the drive there, Jonas acted annoyed about the photos and taking off early, so I shrugged off the thoughts of how weird it was to be taking photos and thinking it might be a proposal. When we pulled in, I didn’t see any of Jonas’s family but he said they may be parked in the back. We got out to walk to the front porch and there was a puppy sitting there. I am obsessed with puppies so we walked to the porch and started petting him.
As we are talking, Jonas asks me what is on his collar. My heart immediately started racing as I spun his collar around until I saw the most beautiful ring! I was so confused and truly in shock. I couldn’t even form words. I stood up holding this puppy as Jonas told me this pup was ours and he wanted to spend the rest of his life with me! Of course, I said yes! We spent the evening with our families and our new puppy, who we named Gibson. It was the happiest day of my life and he made two incredible dreams come true!
