How We Met
I just started as a temp for a mechanical equipment company. I was younger than most, hungrier, and learning the ins and outs really fast. I heard there would be a meeting with managers from other offices in the office I work out of. Troy and I work for the same company but he resides in our Canadian office. The day of the meeting I went out of my way to the lunchroom to see many people I email and speak with in person. I locked eyes with one in particular, Troy. He was tall, handsome but I did not want to overstep boundaries as I was technically “only a temp.” I was hired into the company within six months and to my luck, was given the opportunity to work closely with Troy in the same department. It wasn’t for a couple months that we would finally meet after daily conversations, chit-chat, and work-related chemistry that an amazing friendship was in the works.
Months went by and I was informed he would be in town for yet another meeting and invited me out to dinner for a formal meeting and work banter. We immediately hit it off. He was a perfect gentleman… polite, intriguing, kind and looked at me as if I was the only one in the room. From then on, conversations became more frequent and we would find any reason to reach out to each other. I was falling.. hard. After a couple months, I was promoted and to congratulate me, my boss and Troy came into town for a long weekend. It was a split decision that changed our lives forever. Troy decided to drive to my house from the hotel, in the middle of the night, in a blizzard to see me. When he arrived, the butterflies were going a mile a minute and I could not contain the happiness. My jaw hurt from smiling so much. We were up for the rest of the night, talking and getting to know one another on a deeper level. There was so much we wanted to know. Well, the rest is history. We began dating and after about seven months, he asked me to be his girlfriend. Schoolgirl jitters and all, I gladly said “yes!”
How They Asked
I woke up Christmas morning, ready to see the excitement from my son’s face from Santa’s visit the previous night. I got a seat next to the tree and watched my son open his gifts. I turned to see Troy but he was not in sight. I figured he went to let out our dogs, so I carried on. I saw him holding our newest puppy and I reached out to give him and the others a new toy and treat. Troy handed me the puppy, with a huge grin on his face and that’s when I turned my head to pet the puppy, but instead, tears of joy rolled down my face as I saw the most beautiful ring I had ever seen. I looked at him, and he said those four magical words, “Will you marry me?”
I said “Yes!”
