How We Met

Anthony played basketball for Queens College and I ran track for St. Thomas Aquinas College. In his senior year, he was strongly encouraged to run track. Needless to say, he did. We ended up finding each other on Instagram. He commented on my photo one day to see if I would be at the track meet the next day. We exchanged numbers from there and spoke every day since. We started dating March 29th, 2015.

how they asked

Fast forward to now. Back in July for my birthday, Anthony scheduled a paint and sip for us to go to. When we got there, it was closed so we weren’t able to do it. So, fast forward to December 30th, 2017. That morning, on our way to my brother’s basketball game, he told me that he scheduled us to go to a paint and sip that night. He then suggested that maybe my sisters wanted to go. Come to find out, my sisters already had plans to go (suspicion #1). Throughout the day, my sisters and my mom were having side conversations without me (suspicion #2) and if you know me, I’m nosey and want to know everything.

We get to the place, everything was going smoothly. My sister had volunteered to vlog the night for me so I said sure why not. A few times, I took over the camera because I felt she wasn’t vlogging enough and she threw a few fits (suspicion #3). Before we started, our instructor let everyone know that we would be playing 2 games (1 during each break we take). While painting, I caught a glance at my little sister’s phone and saw that my mom texted her individually (we’re usually all in a group chat so suspicion #4). Quickly, we approach the second break. Both my sisters kept looking towards the front door so of course I look too and didn’t see anything (suspicion #5). The game was for everyone to draw a heart and then we had to turn that heart into something creative. Anthony decided to make his heart into Jesus on the Cross. I, being the teacher’s pet that I am, decided to turn my heart into a paint pallet. At that moment, I was sure that I would win (because what art instructor wouldn’t love that).

Our instructor collected everyone’s work, she came to the conclusion that she found the winner. Anthony. I was salty (jealous) of course and I “booed” him when he went on stage. I yelled “boo get off the stage” (unsupportive I know but I was joking. Things got a little competitive). Our instructor instructed her helper to bring up his gift. As he’s opening the gift, I can already tell what it was (at least I thought). So then, again, I yelled “boooo an empty canvas”. As he turned around to show everyone his gift, the “empty” canvas said, “Will you marry me”. Of course, I said yes. When I turned around, my parents and brothers were there (I guess that’s why my sisters were looking out the front door).

Romans 8:28 ” And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His Purpose”. So it’s safe to say that God turned my suspicions into a Blessing.
