How We Met
It all started 10 years ago when Jared and I met in our high school biology class. We hadn’t talked much until that one day when I was correcting his test and noticed that he was totally failing. He had asked me to help him and from there it was an instant connection. We spent our freshmen year being just friends and became closer towards the closure of the year. On the last day of school, we spent the entire day together. He asked for my number and my picture right before we parted ways for summer break. Jared didn’t have the courage to ask me out until our sophomore year. We have been inseparable ever since.
how they asked
I’ve been waiting my whole life to hear my best friend say the words “Will you marry me.” Jared had planned our anniversary this year; knowing that I’m a planner, he asked me not to plan a single thing. After an entire day full of surprises, Jared wanted to take me to an amazing pier in Olowalu where we can watch the sunset before dinner. When we got there, he guided me through a beautiful deserted path that led us to our destination. It was completely empty and I could hear the winds blowing and sounds of the waves crashing. As we were walking I was so occupied by all the heart shaped corals on the ground, I had no idea what was about to happen.
We were reminiscing about how 10 years ago we talked about going to Hawaii together and here we are celebrating 9 years together in this beautiful island. As we got closer, Jared pointed out a box that was on the corner of the pier. As I walked up, I picked up this handmade box and a coral reef in the shape of a heart, thinking in my head, wow what a treasure! I then saw printed in calligraphy “for my lovely, beautiful woman” I had chills running through my body. As I listened to the serene waves in the background, everything around me suddenly began to fade away as I opened the box to read a beautifully written letter that brought tears to my eye.
As I looked back to give Jared a hug, he was on one knee, said a well prepared speech and had tears rolling down his eyes; he then popped the question. Our anniversary getaway turned into an unforgettable memory.
I don’t know where I would be today without him as my life coach. I cannot wait to marry this phenomenal man.
