How We Met
Josh and I met in high school, but we were not high school sweethearts. We had mutual friends and ended up in the same group at events sometimes. After high school, we went to the same college. We ran into each other on campus a few times and he would message me when we passed each other on our way to and from class. This went on for a few years. We would talk occasionally, but it never led to anything other than friendship- a first. He tried many times to reel me in, but I was at a point in my life where I just wanted to have fun with my friends and be carefree. One night, I called my Aunt Jemma to chat and she asked me if I knew a Josh Booth. I said, “uhh yeah!” and she put him on the phone! After my initial shock I found out our cousins were dating and he was hanging out with them that night.
Yet again, this led to us texting back and forth. This time felt different. I could see how hard he was trying and I was ready to give it a shot. At first, it started off as a fun friendship and I soon realized Josh was my perfect guy! He was so sweet, funny, caring, polite and s’cute! ;) There was a side to him I had never seen before and I was starting to fall in love. When he had to hold my hair back in my family’s camper after a fun July 4th and he stuck around, I knew he was the one! A beach trip later, we said our first “I love you” at the top of a Ferris wheel and it was just as magical as it sounds. 6.5 years later, here we are with our own house, two fur babies and still a lifetime ahead of us. My Aunt Jemma is no longer with us. She always took credit for getting us together and in a huge way, she did! Josh has been my rock through many ups and downs and I truly believe everything happens for a reason.
How They Asked
My fiancé, Josh, and I have been together for 5 years in August. We’ve always known we wanted to buy a house, get married and have babies (in that order) someday. At the end of August, we went on vacation to Charleston, SC. His cousin, HJ, and cousin’s wife, Felicia, live there and we love to spend our vacation every year with them. They always joke about us needing to hurry up and get engaged & married and it had become a fun way to pick on Josh about taking so long. I knew we had a plan and it never bothered me how long we were together because I knew I was going to be with him forever. When on vacation we always like to try different wineries and breweries.
So it wasn’t out of the ordinary when Felicia told me not to make plans for Thursday that week because we were going to the Angel Oak Tree for a wine tasting. Perfect! Josh has a forestry degree and loves anything to do with trees and we had been there once before and wanted to get pictures every year there. Also, didn’t think anything of it when Felicia said she got the days messed up and the wine tasting was actually on Friday? It makes sense, I thought. Friday comes and we wake up late, in a rush & I’m trying to get me together because we will be going to eat at a nice restaurant afterward in downtown Charleston. Felicia offers to curl my hair & I’m so thankful now that she did!
We get to the tree and get ready to take our annual picture. HJ offers to hold my purse, Felicia offers to hold my phone. I still have no clue that a photographer has been following us around and captures every moment of this perfect day. Later that day they tell me about all the trouble they’ve all been through all week long trying to make everything perfect.
I’ve never felt so loved! The ring was custom made in SC and the jeweler needed more time & actually met Josh when we were shopping and I had no idea! The first thing Josh said when standing up from proposing was you know there’s no wine, right? I wasn’t even mad ;)
