How We Met: Harris and I met through WKU, my sorority (AOII) & his sister, Mary Clayton, who also happened to be my grand big in my sorority. Mary Clayton introduced me to her older brother, Harris, who was in Bowling Green for a WKU event that weekend. We were both very drawn to each other on the night we first met. Harris says he fell in love with my country accent the night we met. :) Time passed & we eventually reached out to one another- followed by our first date. The rest is history!
how they asked:We were in Seagrove Beach, Fl (30A) for my family vacation. After a beautiful first day on the beach, everyone began to get ready to go out for the night. Harris purchased a “selfie stick” before the trip and had been so giddy about it for days, so before we left for the night, he said he wanted to go to the beach to try it out and to take some pics. I agreed, and down to the beach we went. We walked down the steps of the boardwalk and he directed me to the right and we walked toward what looked like a bottle.
As I got closer, I realized it was indeed a message in a bottle set up against a fence in front of the dunes. Harris told me to look at it, and to begin reading the “messages.” One was from my nephew and niece, Kase and Sutton, another from my parents, another one from my future sister in law, my future in-laws and his grandma.
All letters were heartfelt indications that Harris was going to ask me something special. With tears FLOODING down my face (everyone knows how emotional I am), Harris got down on one knee and asked me to spend the rest of my life with him….and of course, I said yes!
Harris points back at our condo, and my family was standing there and had been watching the whole thing. They were clapping, and so were others who witnessed it.
My family joined us on the beach where we took pictures. To my surprise and to Harris’ as well, a few minutes passed and his family ran down the boardwalk onto the beach and SURPRISED us; we had NO idea, thinking they were back home in Kentucky.
We were thrilled that both of our families were there to witness our special day.
