How We Met
On October 7, 2013, I had to attend a concert for my music appreciation class. As an assignment, we were asked to complete a critique of a concert. I decided to attend our school’s concert, at our school’s chapel. When I walked in, I decided to sit towards the back. I sat a few rows in front of this guy. He was wearing a hat and seemed to be very cute. I was with a friend and she decided to sit further back. When we finally sat down, that same guy walked up to me and asked me if I knew what I was doing. I told that guy that I did, and that he could sit with us.
Later on, we introduced ourselves. Sean proceeded to tell me that he was in a music appreciation class as well, and was lost on the assignment. I told him that I was essentially a band nerd and somehow he didn’t run away. When the concert started Sean tried to ask questions about the assignment but essentially he took a picture of my notes and went on his way.
Fast forward to January 2014, Charleston had a massive ice storm. The storm was so bad that our school went on full lockdown for about a week. During that week, my friends and I decided to have a twister party! We got a twister board, soap, and added some water to make a little fun.
Sean was one of our attendants at our party. By the end of the night, we were wrestling and Sean was the announcer.
I guess Sean liked our group of people because the next day, he gathered all of us up to go downtown to see all the snow!
About 8 of us, pilled into Sean’s trailblazer and went to downtown.
During that ride, Jess (my friend) and I rode in the trunk.
While we were on this ride, Sean played a specific song. Sean played “Ala-freakin-bama” (because I was from Alabama) for me. I remember singing it at the top of my lungs just to get a smile out of him. As we were downtown I tried my hardest to show off for Sean, but it seemed like he was more interested in everyone else. So, when we went to Olive Garden I got him to sit by me. That was when we really hit it off. I got his number and began texting him daily. After 2 months, Sean asked me to be his girlfriend on March 30, 2014.
How They Asked
Sean and I were planning on making a trip to New Orleans for the Sugar Bowl.
Sean had asked his parents for tickets to the game, for Christmas, and little did I know that his whole family pitched in for this unforgettable trip.
Sean and I flew out of Atlanta on December 31, 2018, for New Orleans.
I honestly was hoping that Sean was gonna ask me on this trip, but he was giving off every signal that he wasn’t. When we arrived in New Orleans, we went immediately went to our hotel. We were lucky enough to have a hotel that was in walking distance of Bourbon St.
After our friend Matt arrived we headed straight for Bourbon St. (of course). We got a few drinks in us and headed towards Jackson Square.
We decided to head on over to the Florida Georgia Line concert for a few minutes and head back towards the Square. Sean had us in front near the tree, however, there was this couple that was pushing up on Sean. Sean then decided to take us on the side of the square. Sean wanted to take a picture, and during that picture, Sean got down on one knee. He said, “Teri Brooks Kearns, will you do me the honor of marrying me?”
At this point, I was in straight tears and just shook my head. After 4 years, my best friend finally asked me to spend forever with him.
