How We Met
Thomas and I met in July of 2015 at our orientation for graduate school at the University of North Texas Health Science Center in Fort Worth, TX. We soon found out that we grew up in the same place (Plano, TX) for the past 18 years and even crazier, he was one of my best friend’s neighbors! (WHAT) Even with living 2.3 miles from each other and having numerous mutual friends, we never knew of each other until we both came back to Texas to pursue our Masters of Public Health degree.
Thomas made our relationship official over a piece of cheesecake in Sundance Square in Fort Worth on November 14, 2015 and the rest was history. We spent the next two years eating a lot of Chick-fil-A (S/O to Montgomery Plaza), traveling back and forth between Fort Worth & Plano, going out with friends, and of course studying!! When the end of our program came near in May of 2017, Thomas took a job offer that landed him in Chicago and I accepted a position back in Arkansas where I completed my bachelors’ degree… And thus began a very bittersweet season of our lives (HELLO LONG DISTANCE). Luckily after 10 months of Thomas being up in Chicago, his job relocated him back to Dallas at the beginning of 2018 and dropped our time of distance down to only 5 hours (THANK YOU SHERWIN WILLIAMS!!).
how they asked
Chicago quickly became a very special place in both of our hearts. Although we both hate cold weather, there is something about Chicago and its city that we absolutely love. Thomas planned a surprise trip for us up to Chicago for the weekend of March 24, 2018. I became suspicious that this would finally be our special engagement weekend so I packed accordingly and got my nails done too!
On Sunday, the 25th, he told me that before dinner he wanted to stop by North Avenue Beach, a place I had been wanting to go to see the views of the city skyline and the water. When we got there, it was incredibly windy (they don’t call it the windy city for nothing!) and also very cold!! We walked around the path next to the water and after about a minute I was ready to leave and be somewhere warm but Thomas continued to walk and talk, to which I kept asking him what was going on and what we were doing standing out there with no jackets on!!
He finally stopped, turned to me and began to talk about our relationship and the future… Leading to him getting down on one knee and asking me to spend my life with him! After saying YES, Melissa, our brave soul photographer, took more pictures of us until our hands were red and numb. Over the moon about #GoingGans!!
