Engagement Proposal Ideas in Villa de Leyva, Colombia

How We Met

Sebastian and I met online (hello, 21sr century dating!). I was super skeptical about online dating in the first place. The more he and I talked, the more I felt like he was out of my league. He eventually asked me to go out on a date with him, and I agreed. In the days leading up to it, I tried to find ways to get out of it (car accident, working late, etc.), but he was persistent. He seemed too good to be true, and I was beyond nervous. He actually almost got struck by lightning when he was leaving his house to meet me. It was so close, that he had to go back inside and wait for his ears to stop ringing and for his vision to go back to normal. I guess it was a sign…? We went out on our date, and he went above and beyond. We started at the Orlando Eye and Aquarium, followed by dinner at Yard House. It was so perfect, and he was (and still is) so easy to talk to.

how they asked

Sebastian was born and raised in Bogota, Colombia. He moved here when he was 10 or 11, and had not been back to visit in 15 years. We decided to plan a trip to Colombia this past summer, and this is where he proposed. We had a 2 week vacation planned, full of empanadas, site seeing, and family time. About halfway through, we took a family trip to Villa de Leyva, Colombia. About 14 of us were staying in an Air BNB! On our second day there, we left early to go to a waterfall. When we got there, the park ended up being shut down due to a body being found… little did I know, this was where he was planning on proposing. Due to the circumstances he ended up asking at the house we were staying at with his family all around us. It was perfect, and I wouldn’t change a thing… except for how much I cried. I felt like I had no control over my body, and I couldn’t believe he was asking me to marry him.
