How We Met
PJ and I “knew of” each when we both were students at Stetson University. He is a couple of years younger than me so, even though he won’t admit it, he had noticed me long before I really knew who he was. PJ was in a fraternity and I was on the Beach Volleyball team so we both lived very different lives during college. After taking a year off to work upon graduating, I made the decision to go to law school and Stetson University College for Law was my first and only choice. When I began my second year, I found out that PJ was starting his first year at Stetson Law, and as a fellow alum, I reached out to see if he needed any help adjusting to law school. After several school social events and a hurricane party, I was head over heels for PJ and shorting after my birthday, I found out he felt the same about me!
How They Asked
PJ and I were in Gainesville for my orientation at UF Law on Friday. Before Gainesville, his mom had texted PJ, his sisters, and myself asking if we could take family pictures that Saturday since the school year would be starting. I didn’t think twice about it and we coordinated colors and planned on taking family pictures Saturday morning at his parents’ house with his whole family. On the drive back from Gainesville early on Saturday morning, PJ was so calm and completely normal so I didn’t suspect a thing! As we were getting into DeLand, PJ’s mom texted him saying the photographer was running late and PJ asked if I wanted to drive through downtown and stop by Stetson University, our alma mater. I love DeLand and Stetson so of course, I was down to walk around and kill some time.
Once we parked and started walking toward Palm Court, one of the most beautiful parts of Stetson, PJ told me how much he loved me and how excited he was for our future together but before we could begin that future, he said he needed to ask me a question first. Before I knew it, PJ was on one knee and proposed! With shaky hands and fighting tears, I immediately said yes and my heart was so full and so happy! After taking some engagement pictures with the photographer, PJ took me to his parents’ house where not only his family was waiting but also my entire family and our family friends! We were able to celebrate all morning and afternoon with each other and the people we love most. It was the perfect proposal, the perfect engagement party, and the best day of my life!
