How We Met
Life had thrown me a few curve balls, and I ended up making a big move from Wisconsin down to Kentucky (after calling my parents saying I wasn’t going). My parents gave me the courage and ‘push’ I needed to uproot my entire life and move states away, to a new place I knew nobody. God was by my side and I was fortunate enough to have found two wonderful girls to live with, one of which led me to meet Michael. One night we were sitting in our living room when the conversation of ‘guys’ came up. After awhile of browsing online, one of my roommates Sarah, pointed out Michael who she had met through the Engineering School at the University of Louisville. She kept talking about how nice of a guy he was, and encouraged me to message him. Knowing nobody, I figured why not. What’s the worst that can happen right? And lucky for me, it was the best decision of my life.
Soon after reaching out, I got a response and the conversation flowed and seemed completely effortless. We continued to talk here and there through our busy schedules and I couldn’t help but get more excited with each day. About a week later, we ended up at the same bar, completely unplanned with separate friend groups. Thanks to our mutual friends we met that night, but it felt as if I’d been friends with him for so long.
Being the gentleman he is, Michael followed up the very next day asking me on our first date. We went to the walking bridge downtown, and talked for over an hour, taking in the city lights and learning more about each other. And that was all it took. We were both hooked. We are both firm believers that everything happens for a reason, in God’s timing. And while our story may not be the most romantic, the lengths it took to bring us together show His power and that he has a plan for all of us.

Getting engaged and the future was a conversation Michael and I frequently had. (Probably a little more frequently than he preferred). It was something we were both very open and excited for. However, when it came down to it, Michael always seemed to have a way of making me feel as if it wasn’t happening soon.
As the holidays started to arrive, I was so excited to do everything Christmas, get our first christmas tree, stockings, lights, ornaments and all the decorations Michael would allow me to buy. While he agreed they could put up the tree, lights and other decorations around Thanksgiving, he insisted we wait to put the ornaments on the tree until December. December 1st happened to fall on a Friday night and Michael suggested we put the ornaments on then, which also happened to be his parent’s wedding anniversary (a small detail I love about our proposal). I wasn’t completely sold but agreed anyway.
That evening, we made dinner and were hanging out as it was any other night when Michael suggested we start decorating the tree. It had been a long week at work, and I was tired and didn’t feel like it. A couple more minutes passed and Michael suggested we start again. I had no clue why he was so adamant on decorating the tree but said said okay we started decorating.
Michael and his wild imagination came up with a great story to set himself up. He told me that as a kid, he would put the hooks on the ornaments and everyone else would put them on the tree. We started with a box of homemade ornaments, that he was handing me one by one. Each ornament had its own story and it was beginning to get more fun. After a few, he handed me a plain, wooden ornament. I didn’t think twice about it until I flipped it over to read ‘our first engaged christmas’. Completely shocked I turned around to find him getting on one knee. He had prepared the most thoughtful speech, telling me how much he loves me and how excited he was to spend the rest of his life with me. Without a doubt I said YES while still shaking from excitement. Celebrations immediately began after phone calls to our family. Michael had 20 of our closest friends waiting for us at the bar we first met, and we were able to start our engagement with those who had been there with us since the beginning!
We are engaged to be married Saturday, November 3rd, which will be our 3 year anniversary. We are so excited and cannot wait for the rest our lives.
