How We Met
Ali and I met via some college friends– I was on my friend’s Snapchat story and his friend messaged the girl whose snap story I was on and said: “Yo, my boy thinks your girl is cute.” I had to ask my friend to get a picture for me before I committed to giving my phone number, because DUH! He sent the photo over and decided he was worth the phone number :) a few weeks later, he asked me to out to grab some sushi and I have to say, it was some damn good sushi.
That night we hung out and I invited him to visit me in California (where I am from.. and where we now both live) during the summer and he committed to coming right on spot. A few months later, he was in California and I knew he was for real. Ever since then we have been inseparable!
how they asked
Ali and I spontaneously decided to go on a trip to Kona, and really didn’t have many plans. All we had was a hotel and flights! Ali’s good childhood friend, Jacob, moved to Hawaii for college and said he would be willing to show us around the island for a few days. He took us to secret beaches, convinced us to cliff jump, and then lastly– took us to this crazy hike. I was a little nervous going in, but Ali’s friend reassured us that the hike would be worth it. We first walked through a cow pasture to get to the trailhead… I was totally wary of walking past huge cows, but I mustered up the courage to do it.
We started walking to the trailhead and the man who owned the pasture stopped us and said “Be careful walking the path, we believe our ancestors live here in the sacred Waipio Valley. Respect the land and the land will respect you back.” Once he said this, he lead us in a prayer to the Hawaiian ancestors to keep us safe on the hike.
At that point, I was ready to conquer whatever was ahead. We hopped one more fence then were on our way. When we got to the top, it was the MOST BEAUTIFUL view I have ever seen. Completely, untouched nature.
I was looking over the cliff to take in the amazing few, then I hear Ali say “Taylor.” I turned around and he was on his knee… I was in total shock. I mean, I had stepped in cow poop on the way to the top, I was sweaty and smelly, and he still wanted to propose?! I couldn’t believe it. It was the most magical moment ever. And the ring is perfect– the icing on the cake!
