How We Met
On March 29, 2012 my best friend decided to throw a “purple party” so we made purple tutus. The party wasn’t very exciting so we ditched her own party and went to a different party down the street, me still in my tutu. I was sitting in a chair when Aaron finally came over and talked to me. We spent the entire night flirting and getting to know each other. I dropped him off at home and woke up to a text from him the next morning. My friends all encouraged it but i was adamant that i was not going to start dating this guy. He was really handsome, worked out constantly, and was in a fraternity so by default he had to be a player, right? For the first time in my life (obviously) I was wrong. After getting to know him better and not finding any red flags I decided to give him a shot.
Two months later we got a puppy, Jordan, and he transformed us into a family. Little did we know this sweet puppy was extremely sick with parvovirus. For two weeks we nursed him back to health, but so many times we were afraid he would survive. It was the most irresponsible decision either of us had ever made but by far the best. Mind you, we still weren’t “officially” boyfriend and girlfriend. That happened a month later, the morning after my 21st birthday, on July 18th, 2012, he asked me to be his girlfriend. i knew that if he still wanted to be around after my 21st, he was never going anywhere. Two years later when I graduated from college the three of us moved in to a townhouse. Fast forward three years, I am in nursing school and he has an amazing job with UPS and we’re engaged!
how they asked
My birthday is July 17th and our anniversary is July 18th. For the last couple of years we have gone to Lake Tahoe for the Celebrity Golf tournament with my family. This year we decided we would take a break and do something different. That was until Aaron decided he was going to propose. We are from the Bay Area and thought about going on a sunset cruise on the Bay with my family but later decided against it because it was “too expensive.” However, I have always said when we eventually get engaged I would like Jordan, our dog, there as well. Jordan can’t go on a sunset cruise so plans had to change. Once again we decided to go to Tahoe, however, this year the golf tournament was the week before my birthday so we would only be going a couple days. We arrived on Sunday and hung around the cabin and went out for dinner.
The next day, Monday, was my birthday so we went to the dog beach and my best friend and her boyfriend showed up at the beach and surprised us with a visit for my birthday. After the beach we decided we would go to dinner at a nice restaurant, Primo’s, down the street where Aaron and I have gone for the past three years for our anniversary, especially since this year we would be leaving Tahoe the morning of our anniversary and wouldn’t make it. My mom recommended stopping somewhere before to take “family pictures” since we were all together and my friend could take the pictures, of course Jordan is part of the family so he came along as well. We drove a couple miles to Emerald Bay, one of the prettiest spots in Tahoe in my opinion and a place we usually hike with the dog while we’re in Tahoe.
There is a lookout where tourists and hikers can look over the bay and it’s just gorgeous. We started taking pictures, and then my family said the three of us, Aaron, Jordan, and I should take one together. Right at that moment my entire family lined up to take our picture as Aaron got down on one knee and asked me to marry him.
After taking even more pictures, we went to the car and popped the champagne before going to dinner at “our” restaurant.
The next morning I woke up in disbelief of our new reality. I am so thankful to have a man who loves me as much as he does. I could not have planned it better myself, it was simply perfect.
