Taran and Scott
How We Met
Scott and Taran went to Monument Mountain Regional High School and met freshmen year. They were only friends all throughout high school and hung was out a lot. Every Monday they would get together with their friends and watch House during their Junior and Senior year. Taran and Scott remained close friends then the summer of 2010 when they were going into college they began to start hanging out all the time. During this summer they started to like each other but decided that since Scott was going to college in California at Santa Clara University and Taran was going to college at the University of Massachusetts Amherst that it was going to only be a summer thing. Before Taran left for college she wrote Scott a letter and said she loved him for the first time. Soon after Taran left for college and Scott helped move her in with her friend Katelyn. Taran and Scott still hung out as much as possible until Scott left for California. Once they both got to college they still texted and FaceTimed all the time. They both realized they wanted to be together so Taran planned a trip to California to see Scott. Taran went to California and on November 14th, 2010 Scott asked Taran to be his girlfriend and gave her a build a bear dog with is voice in it. Taran of course said yes and the rest is history.
how they asked
Sunset on the beach in Cape Cod. Bright, calm, colorful; should be a beautiful location for a proposal, Right?Wrong.
It all started when I “randomly” heard that Taran would love to be proposed to on Cape Cod. Somehow her best friend “just happened to” tell me that she was ready. I was sure that Taran had nothing to do with me hearing these things, so I was definitely ready to surprise her. I got the go ahead from Brian Korte in August, Mollie Williamson(one of Taran’s best friends) helped me out with choosing a ring, and Taran planned a trip to The Cape in September. Everything was ready.
September 21st came around and I was totally calm. We flew into Boston at around midnight and picked up the sweetest ride we could find in the rental car lot. A Chevy Sonic. It was such a smooth ride and couldn’t have been more roomy. I woke up, after getting plenty of sleep, the next morning on September 22nd and couldn’t have been feeling more confident. The weather was absolutely beautiful, so getting Taran down to the beach at the right time was a breeze.
For those of you who do not know me, that entire last paragraph was sarcastic. I was not calm at all I was ready to have a heart attack. The Chevy Sonic was not a nice car at all it was tiny, and the steering wheel was constantly off center, even when driving straight. I was not feeling confident at all on the morning of the 22nd I got no sleep the night before and was still unbelievably nervous. The weather was not beautiful at all; Tropical storm Jose was directly over us and there was no way that I was going to convince Taran to go down to the beach. However, from this point on, everything actually went pretty smoothly.
After going out to eat at a local restaurant called The Black Cat, Taran decided to take a nap(one of her favorite activities). While she was sleeping, her family congregated nearby and her Aunt Tara Ewald setup some rocks on the beach that read “Will you marry me?”. The only thing that was left to figure out was how to get Taran down to the beach during a tropical storm. Taran’s Grandma Donna came up with the amazing idea of telling Taran that she wanted to go down and check on the beach. She also mentioned going to check out “water spouts” that were happening on the beach. We began to head down to the beach with Donna, when she said that she was going to go back to the house to go to the bathroom. We continued down to the beach in the rain and wind, and immediately saw the rocks on the ground.
Taran sees the rocks and says “wow those are really cute, but they are definitely not for me”. After convincing her that the rocks really were for her, I got on one knee and asked her to marry me. Luckily, she said yes, and I have never been happier in my life.
As we headed back to the house, Taran tried to call both of her sisters and began to get annoyed as they did not pick up. However, when we entered Donna’s house Taran was anything but annoyed. She broke into tears as her entire family surprised her. We celebrated that night, and the entire weekend with Taran’s entire family, my parents, and even some friends. It was a weekend that didn’t necessarily go as planned, but it was the best weekend of my life.
