Tara and Mike

I had just got back from studying abroad in Italy, and was returning to work at the retailer I worked for. Mike too worked for the same retailer, and was transferring into my store from another location. It must have been his first or second day when we met. There was a rather immediate attraction, though neither of us say it was a “love at first sight” type of situation. Because we were in a work environment, both of us were alittle hesitant to allow ourselves to go there at first because we knew there’d be a little conflict of interest. But, that couldn’t stop us. We were very flirty, which made it pretty obvious we were interested in each other and proved to be difficult to keep it under wraps. However, we manged to do so and for a year and a half, kept our romance a secret. We finally revealed our relationship on a trip to Yosemite National Park that Mike and I went on in March of 2012, as I was leaving the store to transfer colleges. This is particularly special to us now because, just last week on Saturday, March 14th, we got engaged in Yosemite as well – almost 3 years to the day after announcing our relationship.

how they asked: We had a big trip to Yosemite National Park planned with 12 of our friends. We also had a very massive hike planned for Saturday, March 14th to Yosemite Point, just past Upper Yosemite falls, the highest waterfall in North America. 9 miles round trip, straight up (and back down) a mountain. We braced ourselves for the worst, and around 3 and a half hours later we finally made it to Yosemite Point. We and the group were eating lunch atop this horrifying yet spectacular cliff, and as we were finishing lunch, Mike came up behind me. “Tara”, he said. I turn around to see him down on one knee and the ring box in hand – I am immediately beside myself. He continues, “I love you, and I want to do this with you the rest of my life. Will you marry me?” Still in complete shock, but an overwhelmingly happy shock, I say yes. My hands were shaking uncontrollably at this point, but he managed to put the ring on my finger and our friends begin clapping and cheering; meanwhile, we begin this laughing cry of happiness. It was such a special moment to share with our close friends, and they captured it so well! We finally managed to try and soak in the beauty of where we were, and what had just taken place. Truly a moment in time we will never, ever forget.
