How We Met
Thomas and I met on Tinder. I wasn’t really into the online dating scene until my friend Pascale persuaded me to download the app. In November of 2015, we swiped right and the rest is history! We went a few dates and soon discovered that we had mutual friends and that he had worked at a bar I used to frequent..although we lived in different states at the time, we saw each other constantly and immediately became close. Thomas actually waited 4 months until he asked me to be his girlfriend exclusively. After a year, we, unfortunately, broke up for a short period of time due to work schedules, personal matters, and different career choices. We were both completely distraught during this time and agreed to give each other some space.
After a month had passed, we decided to meet in order to get closure. I handed Thomas a book filled with poems I wrote about our relationship. Every poem was an expression of my love, gratitude, and hatred. He read them with tears running down his face and I couldn’t bear to watch so I started to run the other direction. Thomas quickly placed the book down and ran toward me. Once he found me, he placed his arms tight around my waist and whispered, “I love you so much and I promise I’ll never leave you” and I said the same to him. Since then, we have stuck by each other’s side no matter what. Being together and making each other happy is all we care about.
How They Asked
Three and a half years have gone by and this past Thanksgiving, in front of his entire family, Thomas got down on one knee and asked for my hand in marriage!! As we were finishing dinner, everyone began to say what they were thankful for. I was already a blubbering mess because everyone’s answers were incredibly heartfelt and genuine. When it was my turn, I cried even more and as I finished talking, I looked down at the floor and saw Thomas’ knee was slightly bent against his chair.
My heart started racing as he held my hand and said, “Well, I’m grateful for my family, but I’m especially grateful for Sydney.” At this exact moment, Thomas looked at me and said, “I want to spend the rest of my life with her and I’m hoping she’ll marry me!” He then got down on one knee and continued to say, “Will you marry me?” Of course, I said YES!!! This February we will be celebrating 4 years together and come in June 2021 we will be husband and wife! We vowed to be each other’s forever and now it’s finally coming true!! I cannot wait to marry my best friend!!!
