Sydney and Jay
How We Met: A good friend called me up one day to borrow a swimsuit for a photoshoot. I had just returned from an NFL cheerleaders swimsuit calendar event, so I had just what she needed! I drove over to lend her a few suits, and she said: “Hey! Let’s put them on and stop by this pool get together my friend invited me to.” It took me awhile to say yes. I was not in the mood! At the pool, a nice looking man came up to me and asked my name, what I was up to, etc. I said “My name is Sydney, and I’m just trying to get through this silly party my friend dragged me to.” He replied with, “Oh, nice. I’m Jay, and thanks for coming to MY birthday party.” EMBARRASSING! We snapped a big group photo immediately after. I was still blushing, and I took off! A few weeks later I was out and about in Dallas when I bumped into HIM again, completely unexpected. We exchanged a few words, I flirted, and he hinted that we get together sometime [in a very polite and respectful way]. I guess I was playing hard to get because I simply replied, “Maybe!” along with a finger point and a really strange “raised-eyebrows” expression. That night I couldn’t stop thinking about HIM. I searched online, but of course he had no form of social media. It was then that I found the group photo we had taken at the pool the first time we laid eyes on each other. THERE HE WAS! Looking unbelievably handsome smack dab in the middle of the photo. I sent a message to the guy who posted the photo (not creepy at all), and asked if he could pass along to his friend in the middle of the photo that I would like to get in touch with him. Now that we have been official for a few years, I’ve been told that as soon as that message was received by the friend, their “guy” group text blew up. Apparently the first night we met, the group photo was sent on that same group text, and Jay replied with, “I’m going to marry the girl in orange.” THAT WAS ME! A few messages later and an exchange of numbers, we were off on our first REAL date. Over two years later, I am the happiest girl in the world. I am so thankful my friend needed to borrow a swimsuit, and I’m even more thankful I was wearing orange that day. I met my best friend and the man of my dreams!
how they asked: I am Italian, so my dream has always been to go to Italy. I’ve traveled the world, but I had never been to Italy. My fiancé has family that lives in Europe, and his sister recently had the most adorable baby girl ever! Well, guess what! A special trip to meet the baby was planned, and before we knew it, we were Italy bound! We landed in Rome, spent a day there, and then drove 3-hours across Italy’s beautiful countryside to arrive at our final destination. A few days in, we were relaxing at the pool, and Jay decided to [attempt] pushing me into the pool. I caught myself and said, “Do NOT throw me in! I don’t feel like washing my hair tonight!” Being the gentleman that he is, I now know he was trying to get me to wash my hair for the very special photos that would be taken later that evening, but I was being stubborn, and I was not in the mood to go through all of that trouble! Typical. He tried another route—told me that my hair smelled like smoke from the restaurant the night before. “No one was smoking last night!” I said. You can probably guess: I did not end up washing my hair. I knew we had dinner plans, so a few hours later I was in the bathroom getting ready. My phone was plugged into the wall outside of the bathroom. When I walked out to grab my phone about 30 minutes later, it was gone. There was a card [clue] in its place. The most romantic scavenger hunt began. Clue one was a card that said “YOU&ME” on the front. I won’t type it all, it gets a little mushy, but he did write, “If you are reading this then you probably already have a good idea of how much I love you. But if not, let me tell you a little story…” I know, I know, he is the sweetest! Clue one, took me to two, which took me to three, which led me outside to a beautiful backdrop and lights leading up to my knight in shining armor! He asked me to marry him, I said YES, and I could not stop smiling. He had cameras set up all around (which mainly just captured me squealing with excitement), and his family was taking photos as well. We finished the night with a romantic dinner in a nearby Italian town, and since he did it at the beginning of the week, we had seven more days in Italy to celebrate our love. Best trip ever!
