Sydnee and Elliot

how we met

We met at Oregon State University, one evening (very late, at night) at a park during recruitment week, while out with friends. We bonded initially over having the same birthday, July 29th. We discovered that I am older by a couple of hours! After a few group outings to pizza, movies, and more park adventures, he asked me out on a date. Our first date was one for the books! Elliot took me out to eat for some of my favorite food, sushi. He let me order everything, and barely ate, later I came to learn he didn’t even like sushi (he has since changed his mind). It was very awkward. When it came time for Elliot to ask me to be his girlfriend, I turned him down, I wasn’t quite ready, but he never gave up and here we are, getting MARRIED!! He never really asked me to be his girlfriend again, but he stuck around. We made it through a lot, my time abroad in Italy, my returning home for summers and really all breaks, moving home after college (to California), going to Graduate school in California, and then finally having me move into his house!

how they asked

We were on vacation in Tulum, Mx. enjoying our time at the beach and exploring. July 30th was a hot night, 90 degrees with 90% humidity. We went to dinner at the beach and had some amazing seafood. After dinner Elliot asked me if I wanted to go for a walk, feeling bad that I turned him down the day before (too hot and tired from the days adventures) I went on a walk with him down the beach. We ended up walking up some stairs to the top of a cliff. There was a little lookout point up there, with one of Tulum’s famous rope swings. Minding my own business, swinging back and forth, loving the feeling of the breeze, and enjoying the view of the ocean with the moon reflecting on it, I had no idea what Elliot had planned. All of a sudden he was kneeling down in front of me! The only thing I could think of was that I was swinging back towards him with my feet out, about to kick him. I missed everything he said but also missed kicking him. I don’t remember saying yes, just starting to cry and putting a ring on, I had no idea he even had one. To celebrate we went across the street and ordered some margaritas. We waited and waited and waited some more, our waiter had forgotten to place our order. We eventually got our margaritas and of course, Elliot got peppered with questions. We told only our family and enjoyed the rest of our vacation as an engaged couple, before breaking the news! It was perfectly perfect, and I couldn’t imagine Elliot and I’s story going any other way!
