Surprise Proposal during Maternity Shoot
How We Met: So 5 years ago I was flying medevac for a company here in Fort McMurray. I had just landed back in Fort McMurray from a flight that got called out in the very early hours of the morning, so needless to say when I landed back in Fort McMurray I was a bit tired and looking worse for wear. When I arrived back at the hangar after parking my plane I went into the main office to finish up some paperwork. I was sitting on the couch and in walks Richard.
Right away I was taken aback because he is one good looking guy! I didn’t want to talk to him because I was embarrassed that I had no make up on and my hair was all messy from wearing my headset. He was very chatty and talking with the refueller and some other people that were also in the office. He tells people that I wouldn’t give him the time of day, which isn’t true! I was just very shy and not feeling so hot at that present moment. I went outside and called my mom and told her “you should see this guy in the office, he’s a new pilot for the company I work for and he looks like a Calvin Klein underwear model or something”. I went back inside briefly introduced myself to him and then headed home for some much needed rest. Little did I know that years later we would end up together, engaged and having a baby. He still takes my breath away to this day and he always will.
how they asked (from the photographer): Among many surprises during Richard and Courtney’s special weekend, like staying in the penthouse suite at Sparkling Hill Resort. One of them was Richard surprising Courtney with a maternity session! As they are expecting, this has been an idea for quite sometime, so Richard surprised her with it during their special weekend. Little did she know, this was only the start to the surprise.
After secretly e-mailing back and forth with Richard to get a feel for how he wanted this to look, he came out with the vision to make it happen.
The second I saw Courtney and Richard walking down one of the cherry orchard rows to find me waiting for her maternity session, I could feel their love fill the trees.
I’m sure anyone who knows these two can relate to what I’m talking about. You can tell it’s a meant to be type deal. It was a breeze capturing Courtney’s beauty as we focused on the maternity side of things. Radiating life underneath the hanging cherries along with a darling picnic setup including mini pies, delicious cherries, and lovely lavender. About midway through is when the true magic happened though..
As I gave Richard his cue and stepped back, tears flowed and Richard popped the question with the most stellar natural sapphire ring from New York.
She said Yes! There is absolutely no way for me to explain how stunning this moment was.
Luckily, we captured the whole story! I spent the rest of the evening photographing the newly engaged couple celebrating one of the most memorable times in their life.
