How We Met: Where do we begin! The first time their eyes met, Collin was 10 and Kenzie was 7. Collin was building legos in Garrett’s (Kenzie’s brother) room and Kenzie was the young little sister that would come in and interrupt their play date. It wasn’t long before Kenzie wanted to be a part of all the boys activities, as she had her eye on the bleach blonde kid from San Juan…
Now lets hit the Fast Forward button (11 years into the future) to their second meet-cute. Collin is enjoying his college days, while Kenzie is counting down her high school days. Neither were looking for love, but as they say it comes when you least expect it! Kenzie had attended an event where she ended up dancing and singing on stage with Eddie Vedder and Ben Harper – typical. Channon Lunnen (Collin’s Sister) had also attended the event and spotted Kenzie on stage and knew “she was the one!” It wasn’t long before Collin & Kenzie were chatting to the wee hours of the night on Facebook talking about who knows what. Their four hour Starbucks date turned into countless memorable dates to and from that point on they were inseparable and spent every minute together.
Now years later, their love is unmistakable and they’re the proud owners of a fury child named June (goldendoodle). Kenzie’s learned how to ride horses, Collin’s learned groovy dance moves, they’ve traveled the world together, Kenzie’s now a Chicago Bears fan and Collin’s taken a new liking for crime shows. Through all these experiences together they’ve learned to love each other will all their hearts and are preparing for all of the amazing experiences to come. This is just the first chapter in their lives together and as they conclude part 1 of their story they look forward to beginning part 2 of this exciting time in their lives.
how they asked: Collin had been planning this special day for quite a long time, as he wanted it to be perfect just as he had envisioned it. From the beginning, Collin always wanted it to be a complete surprise for Kenzie and made sure to pop the question when she least expect it. After countless phone conversations and emails with the staff of Herringbone Restaurant in La Jolla CA, he had eventually set a date to pop the question to Kenzie. But he felt like something was missing and he wanted to make it even more memorable.
He wanted them to be able to remember this moment and share it with everyone so he contacted and hired Aaron Huniu of Aaron Huniu Photography. Collin and Aaron went over every detail together; from which table to sit, where was the best position for lighting, and ultimately how to best capture every moment and every emotion while still making it a complete surprise to Kenzie that a photographer was photographing every moment. They figured the best way to do this would be to have Aaron and his wife sit down at the restaurant and act as guests until the time was right and he would snap the shots from his table directly across the way.
Collin and Kenzie were on vacation in San Diego staying at the Estancia La Jolla Hotel, so he knew that this weekend would come as a complete surprise. When it became time, they left the hotel and headed for Herringbone for dinner and upon arrival were seated at the perfect table. From that point they had drinks and enjoyed an appetizer before getting into deep conversation about love and how Collin thought Kenzie was perfect in every way. Then when the time was right, he got down on one knee and asked if she would marry him, and without little hesitation she said yes and began to cry in joy.
The whole entire restaurant witnessed this moment and began to cheer in excitement, this all occurred while their photographer Aaron Huniu was hard at work capturing every moment without ever being noticed. Needless to say, Kenzie was very shocked to learn that a photographer was there capturing it all. The photos turned out better than ever imagined and they now have this special moment captured to share and look back on forever. But ultimately what came to a surprise more than anything to Kenzie was that Collin asked in such an open environment like the restaurant, as she would never of suspected this from him – which is why it made it even more so special.
