How We Met
Mike and I met 7 years ago at Planet Fitness; I feel like when you meet someone you instantly get a vibe from them and subconsciously decide what kind of connection you’re going to have with them. I did not know that I would marry mike one day, but upon first meeting Mike, I did know that I really wanted to/had to date him. Mike was the midnight employee and I was the new weekend employee.
He would come into the gym on weekends to work out but really would just end up hanging out at the front desk telling me jokes and funny stories. We would often leave each other secret notes hidden up at the desk with clues for us to find on our shifts. He was always just so kind, genuine and funny. It took us 3 years to finally make a relationship official and we have been together ever since!
how they asked
I’ve been with my fiancé, Mike, for 4 years, known him for 7. We absolutely love traveling! For over a year we saved up to take a trip to visit his sister, Brittney, who is living in Guam. What a beautiful place it was- lots to explore and experience- especially with a once in a lifetime proposal! October 12th, 2017- We hiked about a mile, around an hour before sunset, to the secluded Hila’an Beach in Tamuning, Guam. Our plan was to go snorkeling amongst the large rock formations.
Brittney and I walked down the beach to take pictures before we dove in, Mike caught up shortly after. Brittney told me she was setting her camera up for a time lapse of the sunset and asked to take my camera to get some more pictures, so I gave it to her. As she grabbed my camera Mike came up behind me, tapped my shoulder to turn around and started saying the sweetest things. It was so nice! And at this point I had no clue what was going on, I just thought he was being sweet.
Then, he got down on one knee and pulled out this beautiful seashell he had found snorkeling earlier in the week. In it was a ring that was better than I have ever imagined in my dreams! Already teary eyed he told me the meaning of the shell and continued to tell me that he took my dad and brother out for dinner to ask for my hand in marriage the night before we left for our trip. That really got the waterworks flowing!
And as if this already wasn’t the fairytale I had always hoped for, we then went down the beach to a place called Two Lovers Point, which is a giant cliff with an overlook at the top. [There is a tragic love story behind the meaning of this cliff.] We wrote our engagement date on a heart and locked it up to the cliff with the rest of peoples love messages. And celebrated our engagement with dinner on the cliff, overlooking the ocean at sunset. It was so magical and romantic! & it was even more special that Brittney was part of it. I felt so loved and spoiled!
