How We Met
Stephanie and I met on a blind date (set-up through our family friends) and have been together for about 2.5 years. I know it’s cliche, but I knew she was the one for me on our first date. We met each other when we really weren’t looking for anyone, but it just seemed to be right. She made me feel so at ease and so confident in what we could have and have now turned out to be.
how they asked
We had talked about marriage, but did not put ourselves on a timeline. We started to look into rings and Stephanie fell in love with the unique vintage and antique rings at Single Stone LA. I made an appointment to take her to look at the store. She and I both fell in love with a one of a kind vintage cluster ring she saw and I ended up buying the ring that afternoon and storing it while I plotted the best way and time to make it happen. (Good thing I did because multiple people called that week for it!) Stephanie only had one rule, no one else could be around when I propose and no one could be hiding to take photos or video. She wanted it to be just me and her. I wasn’t sure how I could arrange that considering our families are so big, our schedules so packed and our down time so little.
Stephanie had a work event scheduled for mid-April in Maui and I knew this was the perfect place and opportunity to propose. She was so busy in the weeks leading up that her mind was not focused on getting engaged at all. I rearranged my schedule so I could join her on the trip. She had work commitments Tuesday-Saturday night but we were booked on a red-eye on Sunday night so I knew that Sunday was the perfect day to do it. Sunday morning we woke up at the crack of dawn and went on a beach walk. After about 2 miles of gorgeous beaches and morning joggers, we ended up on this little strip of beach with not a visible person in site.
We sat on the beach enjoying the sunrise and truly feeling like it was just the two of us. I had to somehow get her to stand-up so I asked her to go for a swim.
She stood up and headed for the water and I got down on one knee and asked her if she wanted to hang out with me for the rest of her life and if she would marry me. She said YES and then yes yes yes when she saw it was her dream single stone ring!
We spent another hour on the secluded beach then headed back to a champagne brunch her friends and I had arranged at the hotel.
Our red-eye flight ended up getting cancelled so we were able to spend an extra day in paradise enjoying our exciting news and avoiding real life just a little bit longer!!
