How We Met
David and I met at Alki Beach in Seattle, WA in August 2009. I was having a bonfire with my friends celebrating our first summer out of high school when David caught my eye. I approached him first and was instantly smitten. I remember leaving that night, literally looking behind me and wondering if I would ever see him again. A few days later I went out for dinner with some mutual friends and David was there. As we were leaving, he asked me for my phone number and the next day he called to ask me on our first date. Growing up, I was typically shy and quiet and was no different on our first date, so David led most of the conversation. I opened up more towards the end of the night and we ended up talking in my car for hours that I missed my curfew. Since that fateful night, we’ve been inseparable.
What started as a whirlwind summer romance blossomed into a kind of love neither of us had ever known. Through the next 9 years, we’ve experienced living together, raising our kitties, going to music festivals, eating lots of bomb food, and becoming a part of each other’s families with lots of scary movies watching in between.
How They Asked
On December 31, 2018, David enlisted the help of my closet cousins to plan a surprise proposal while on a hike to Heather Lake. When we reached the lake, it was frozen and the entire scene looked like a winter wonderland. Everyone was taking turns having their picture taken and when it was our turn, David went down on a knee and asked me to marry him! I couldn’t even say “yes,” all I could muster was a nod while I ugly cried.
