How We Met
We both met about 5 years ago when Ethan was in his first year of medical school at the University of Minnesota and I was in my last year of undergrad through a mutual friend. We were actually at a game night and Ethan claims it was “love at first sight,” but I am still doubtful because he spent the entire evening in a separate room playing Settlers of Catan. Ethan and I ended up bumping into each other again while out in Uptown Minneapolis about one month later. He proceeded to ask me out on a date the following week, and the rest is history :)
how they asked
I knew the proposal was coming because Ethan is not the best at surprises. The night before the proposal, Ethan called to tell me that we had dinner reservations at 5 pm and to be ready VERY early because it always takes me a long time to get ready. As always, I kind of brushed off the whole timing thing. The next morning, Ethan called to make sure I was ready. He sounded anxious, which is unusual, so I went ahead and got ready even though it was only 10 am. While I was doing my hair, I got another phone call from Ethan. When I answered, he started apologizing saying one of the residents at the hospital was ill and that he was called in for backup and had to leave immediately. Ethan hung up so quickly that I did not even have a moment to process what he said. So I called up my bestie, as per usual, with half straightened, half crazy hair and told her what was going on. Suddenly, I heard a knock at the door…When I answered it, there were flowers, a bottle of wine, chocolate, and a card labeled #1. When I looked up, I saw two of his fellow resident physicians giggling and taking pics of me. Still confused, I invited them both in and opened up the envelope only to discover that I was about to embark on a scavenger hunt around the city with my soon to be fiance as the prize! I quickly finished ready and we were off. Each clue led to a location that was meaningful to both of us and at each location was either food (because we’re both foodies) or a little gift for me. The very last clue brought me to this beautiful lighthouse overlooking the ocean and there was my Ethan, waiting for me. When I finally got to him, Ethan got down on one knee and before he could finish asking me I said, “YES!”
I genuinely could not have ever dreamed of a better proposal. He really outdid himself on this one.
