How We Met: Cameron & I met when I was a junior and he was a sophomore in high school in Fort Worth, Texas. We remained friends for many years but it wasn’t until summer of 2009 when I was going to be a junior and he a sophomore in college that we started dating. He transferred schools in order to attend Oklahoma State University with me and we spent 4 wonderful years together in Stillwater, OK.
how they asked: Cameron and I signed up for the Spartan Sprint, a race from a series that we have fallen in love with and use as our “couples therapy”. It was our third race and our first time planning to run it with a large group of friends. Cameron and I always ran our races together, so it was upsetting when I looked up from tying my shoe around mile 4 and not see him there with all of our friends. When I asked where he was, his best friend Skyler replied, “Oh Chris, he thought you ran ahead and went to try and catch up with you”. I was shocked and insisted that we all speed up; I didn’t understand why the boys weren’t as concerned with catching up with him.
We ran the remainder of the race without him and as we got closer to the finish line I began to hold back tears from not being able to finish with him. At the end of the race I was so focused on receiving my finisher medal that I didn’t even see Cameron waiting for me. He immediately grabbed me and said, “I need to talk to you”.
He got down on one knee and it was then that I noticed my mother with a video camera and a huge sign saying “Christian, will you marry me?”.
Cameron had organized with the race director weeks before and they had their professional photographer capturing the moment. It was amazing and definitely perfect for us!
