how they asked: After the oilfield borrowed my now fiancé Shannon for 3 months in Houston Texas, I made the long journey from Adelaide, Australia to meet with him in Dallas, Texas. Our reunion at the airport was an emotional one, almost missing our flight to Cancun. We embarked on our month long journey beginning in Mexico and then through North America.
We were on our way to the Big Apple, Niagara Falls the ‘Honeymoon City’, Vegas, road tripping through Death Valley and the mojave desert into the midst of Yosemite national park. We were about to begin our journey that I was sure was to take us to magical places. Little did I know how magical this trip was going to be.
On our third day in Mexico, after recovering from the 24 hour travel we lazed on the pristine beaches of Cancun. What was going to ensue in the next few hours was the most unpredictable and most incredible hours of my life so far.
Shannon had organised for us to have a romantic dinner on the beach which didn’t rouse my suspicion as he’s quite a romantic anyway (lucky me!). When we got to down to the beach there was a private dinner for just us 2 lined with petals, roses and champagne. During our dinner we enjoyed wine and talked about our plans and dreams for our future. Although during the dinner he couldn’t eat his food, which is very unlike him! After the second course a mariachi band came out and started playing the most romantic traditional Mexican music.
Shannon gave our camera to our waiter and said lets get a photo so we got up and I began to pose for the photo when he said is that an eagle behind you! I turned around and as I turned back he was on one knee with the most stunning ring I’ve ever seen! He didn’t get a yes for a little while through the tears of joy, I’m surprised I didn’t pass out! I couldn’t believe the day I’d dreamed of was happening, I never could have imagined I would feel how I felt at that moment. We had the trip of a lifetime, creating memories we will treasure for the rest of our lives.
He is the most incredible person I’ve ever met and I can’t believe I get to spend the rest of my life with him. We are back in little old Adelaide and planning our wedding for August 2016 in gorgeous Palm Cove, Queensland where we lived for a year. I can’t wait to say I do to the man of my dreams with all our amazing family and friends surrounding us.
