Soniya and Manu
How We Met
Manu and I were born and raised in the same city back in India. We shared a lot of mutual friends and may well have crossed paths at a wedding, festival, or any other event. However, neither of us knew the existence of the other person until God brought us to the U.S and our friends introduced us (…more like set us up;) ). Despite being miles away from each other and talking only through Facebook and phone calls, distance did not take a toll
Despite being miles away from each other and talking only through Facebook and phone calls, distance did not take a toll in our relationship. Of course, the airline companies benefited from our long distance relationship due to our frequent flights between Florida and Texas. Long story short, after many twist and turns, and with our parents’ approvals and blessings, we are excited to start the new chapter of our life together as a married couple. We can’t wait to see what God has in store for us

how they asked
Manu is a romantic and a man of surprises. At any given day, he could be expected to surprise me whether it is little love notes or a grand romantic dinner or a sweet voicemail of him singing my favorite songs or telling me how much he loves me….he always comes up with something in his creative mind to make me feel special.
Since his family and friends are in India and since they had not seen me, we were planning to take some good pictures. In preparation for it, I went and got my hair and makeup done. The plan was for him to pick me up from home when I was done getting ready and to go to the Dallas Arboretum.
As usual, I was running late, and he started calling me when I was only half way done with my makeup. He told me to not go to my house and that he will bring my stuff and we will meet up half way. Nothing made sense to me but since I was guilty of being late I just did what he asked. As I pulled over to the parking lot of a church, instead of him, I saw my cousin Christina waiting for me there with her car. I called Manu to ask why Christina is picking me up and not him, he just requested me to go with her. With some hesitation and awkwardness, I got into her car and asked her what is going on. She said she has no idea and Manu told her to pick me up.
At that point I began to piece together the events and started to understand that this was going to be more than just a photo shoot; however Christina played her part well and did not give away any information. Finally, the car came to a halt at one of my other cousin’s house. Since, I was not planning on meeting anyone that day, I was little frustrated and confused. The situation became more awkward and confusing as I saw cameras and, as I opened the door, saw my parents and brother who were supposed to be at my home. They handed me a card which said to go upstairs and get ready and that further instructions will be there.
As I came out of the house after getting ready, I giggled when I saw the Rolls Royce in front of the house because I knew about his craze about cars since the day I met him. I got in the car with no idea where I was being taken to. My brother was in the car with me and I asked him what all this is and where Manu is at and even jokingly I asked him if Manu was going to ride in on a horse. He only laughed in reply.
We stopped in front of a ranch looking place with a white horse and carriage in front of it. I busted out laughing, which soon turned into tears as I saw the surprises he had prepared for me. As I rode in the carriage, I saw the decorated Gazebo with my cousins all dressed up and cheering. I was so happy to see them yet my mind was wandering. I felt something was missing, namely, my best friends, Sanjusha and Femie. However, Manu had covered all the possibilities.
Just as I thought about them, they came out to see me. I had met up with Sanju and Femie two days before, and Sanju was supposed to be back in North Carolina. We even said goodbye till we see again in November. I had gone to a Concert with Femie the day before and she had not given me the slightest hint about seeing her again the next day.
The surprises did not end there. Manu gave me the most precious gift ever at that moment – a photo album of me and Manu. It contained the memories from the very first day of our meeting and reminded me of our first of everything….our first movie, first road trip etc. As I went through the heart touching words and memorable pictures of us together, I couldn’t hold back my tears. The next surprise was Manu’s sister, Mili and family, who came all the way from Connecticut. I couldn’t stop my tears of joy as I saw her and the little ones whom I love so much. I missed my sister Joselin very much at that time, but I knew she would’ve been there if her health would have let her.
At this moment, Manu showed up and popped the question. Even though I knew he is the man and he knew I will marry him, I felt very special and honored that he asked to marry him officially in front of my best friends and family. It was a very special proposal which a girl could only have ever dreamed of, and Manu made sure that it would be a memorable one.
