Sofia and Colin

How We Met

Colin and I met in 2008 through a mutual friend. At the time my friend and his roommate decided to come over for some food and drinks. Colin was with him at the time and asked him if he wanted to come along. He came to the house and I think every girl fell in love with Colin. He was quiet, charming and very sexy. I was in my senior year of high school at the time. After that initial meeting the next month I was planning my birthday party with my girlfriends. All the girls insisted we invite Colin. I invited him and he came with a friend. At the party somehow we exchanged numbers and the rest is history. We have been together ever since. I truly have loved every single day of my life with him. I fall in love with him more and more every day. For almost 8 years now he has been my constant reason to smile, laugh and tackle life together. I always say as I asked him to my birthday party …I basically made the first move. :)

how they asked

Colin and I have been together for a little over seven years. We discussed engagement in about two years or so…little did I know he had other plans. We were never big on being engaged right away. I loved the way it was and he was on the same page. When engagement came up around 7 years and 7 months we both again were on the same page together. He proposed and I did not expect it one bit!!

First, it was a normal Saturday. We woke up bought some fall decorations for the apartment, went to Starbucks, had lunch. My nails were not done so he tricked me by saying lets get manicures (good man). After my nails were done we came back home. Around 1 o’clock he said he was going to get a hair cut and I told him I was going to take a nap lol. Seriously, this was our normal Saturday. I woke up around 4:30 and saw that he had text me that he was going to hang out with a friend. Around 5:30 I was home talking to my brother when I received a text message from Colin. It said “did you get my email?”

I looked at my email and there was an email from him with the subject: Instructions. The email said that he loved me and I was the best thing that ever happened to him. He said to follow his instructions. 1. There would be a car picking me up between 5:44-5:55. 2. The driver was instructed not to tell me anything so I should not ask him. 3. When I get out of the car he said listen for the music. 4. Just trust the process.

He ended the email with “straighten your hair.” (he knows me so well because I would die if I was engaged with my hair not done lol). I was freaking out after reading the email. I kept on thinking this was it..but then again Colin always does the most romantic random date nights. So I straightened my hair and put on a nice dress and heels. At 5:55pm a black suv was waiting for me outside of my apartment. I noticed we were driving into the city of Atlanta…Colin and I love Atlanta so it was normal to have a date night in the city. When we arrived the driver opened my door. I was nervous but heard a violin, as I continued to listen and started to walk towards the music my heart dropped. I was listening to my favorite bollywod song…That is when I knew this was it.

I was at centennial park and only he would know my favorite song. I continued to walk …it was a bit chilly but I was already shaking from nerves. There was a man playing a violin, playing that beautiful song I love so much. I was about to call Colin but as I was turning around Colin was coming up behind me.. he dropped to one knee and asked me to marry him. It was a moment in time that I will never forget. I was crying and people that were in the park were clapping and saying congratulations. Colin said to me..” I got the ring bigger than you wanted..thats my last surprise for you.”

Naturally, I cried even more lol. I love this man. After that moment the photographer he hired took a couple of more photos and we went to our favorite restaurant in Atlanta. Colin did this ALL BY HIMSELF!!! He did not tell a soul. My friends and family were shocked but so thrilled and overjoyed. Colin is a master of romance and my proposal was no exception. We have been best friends for almost 8 years and I cannot wait to start this new journey with him!
