How We Met
David and I have known each other since we were 13 years old! We were best friends since then! As we grew — we began developing feelings for one another. David and I attempted to date in high school, but we decided to end things due to being young and unsure. As even more time passed we remained friends, but not to the extent in which we were before. Eventually (in our mid-20s now), old feelings returned and I suggested that we get together before I leave for graduate school. Ten minutes into our date — I knew I wanted to spend forever with him! We were long distance due to graduate school, but that didn’t stop our relationship from growing. As our relationship progressed — the health of my mother began to decline. David, the wonderful human that he is, helped me care for her, take her to doctor appointments, and held my hand and hers until she took her very last breath. He never left me alone in the grieving process nor lost his patience with me as I regained control of my life. Those difficult days made me realize that I wanted him by my side through all life’s darkest times and greatest moments.
how they asked
It was Father’s day (2018), and David arranged a car to take my family and I to the wineries in Temecula, CA. I didn’t think anything of it, because it sounds like something he would typically do. My sister, Chanel told me that she made dinner reservations inside a wine cave at Oak Mountain Winery. As I walked in I was SHOCKED.
As I was walking into the beautifully lit cave, I was shaking as I finally understood what was about to take place. I walked towards the end of the cave and there was David — waiting for me. He grabbed my hands, told me every sweet thing that made my heart explode of happiness, got down on one knee, and asked me to be his partner in life. As soon as I said “YES!”, I heard screaming coming towards me! It was our ENTIRE family rushing towards us to congratulate us.
David was extremely thoughtful with all the details! For examples, the flowers were an arrangement of mine and my mother’s favorite flowers, the string quartet played “our songs”, he placed a camera in the ring box to capture my reaction, he made a collage with all of our adventures since we were 13, and he planned a dinner for our entire family.
I couldn’t have asked for anything better. It was just PERFECT!
