How We Met

Jerad and I met on a blind date on Thanksgiving night, November 27 2014. Our friends, Steve and Christa, who are married, set it up. Steve has known Jerad for over 15 years. They took karate together and have remained friends ever since. Christa and I have been friends since our freshmen year of high school. Steve got the idea and Christa helped make it happen.

The night we met it was a snowy Thanksgiving night and we met at the movie theater to see Hunger Games Mockingjay part 1. After the movie we met up with Christa and Steve and went to a local fast food restaurant. We ended up staying until they closed at 5 am!

There’s a scene in the movie where Katniss demands to keep her sister’s cat. He knew it was coming up and tapped my leg in excitement knowing I would like the scene because one thing we have in common, is our love of animals, especially cats (the proposal is proof!). At that point I knew he was a potential keeper…

how they asked

His aunt works at the SPCA and his mother and her foster shelter kittens. We decided to adopt Gandalf when we were at their house and got to know him. I thought Jerad was at work when I went to pick Gandalf up from the SPCA after he was ready to be taken home. When I got to the SPCA they asked if they could film me for an adoption promotion. I said yes and they began filming.

The SPCA staff handed me Gandalf and asked me to confirm the information on his collar as someone had purchased one for me. I assumed his aunt had purchased the tag and put Gandalf on it. When I read the tag it said “Will you marry me??”

Jerad then appeared and got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. I said yes! I got a kitten and ring!
