How We Met
Clint and I met in 6th grade. We attended the same school that he had been attending since kindergarten. We basically grew up together and we started dating in 9th grade when he asked me to our school’s Christmas banquet. The days turned into years and Clint and I have done practically everything together. Same school. Same college. Same driving instructor. Same love for people. We have been dating for 5 years and Clint asked me to marry him. We are high school sweethearts who have turned into best friends. He is my dearest and most precious friend and I am so glad that I met the cute, chubby, athletic 6th grader who is now going to be my husband.
how they asked
Clint proposed at our absolute favorite beach, San Clemente! He had woken up at 3am that morning and drove down with his friend to set it all up. He had bought bamboo to stick in the ground and attach string and pictures from the past five years. He had two generators that powered twinkle lights that he knew I had always wanted. He set up a table with flowers and chairs and the ring in the middle. He drove two hours down to the beach at 3am and then drove 2 hours back up to pick me up for our date. He had previously made sure I had my nails done and that I was even wearing a white dress. All of this had gone over my head. While we were walking on the beach he started telling me all of the things he loved about me and we started singing cute and funny love songs.
Earlier that day the song “Love Story” came on by Taylor Swift while we were driving in the car and the line “He knelt to the ground and pulled out a ring and said marry me Juliet” came on and I looked at Clint and jokingly said that he needed to learn from this song. What I didn’t know was that we were on the way down to our proposal and at the end of the letter he wrote me it said “Marry me my Juliet you will never have to be alone… I talked to your dad go pick out a white dress its our love story Shelby Elizabeth will you marry me?” What I also did not know was that he had taken my phone and turned it off because he posted right before we started our walk on the beach a picture of the back of my head with the caption “In a few moments your life will never be the same #becomingarosslikeaboss”. When we got to the area he had set up he read me the most precious note and continued to tell me that he had flown in my best friends from college to surprise me.
He also had an invitation he had sent out a few weeks before to my friends and family inviting them to an engagement party the next day at my favorite Mexican restaurant. Clint had rented out the entire restaurant and everyone came and celebrated our special moment. The day was an absolute dream and Clint thought of every detail. Clint planned this proposal for over 6 months and had over 50 people in on it helping lie to me and even making sure everything was going to go perfectly. Clint even went as far as to create an entire Pinterest account and send it to people to have them help have his dream become a reality.
