How We Met
Nick and I both went to the same high school in East Islip, New York. He graduated with my sister and always knew me as “Jenna’ Lafata’s younger sister”. He is three years older than me. We never spoke, but knew of each other’s name. I even found a picture of Nick at my house for my sister’s birthday party in 7th grade. We lived right around the corner from one another. After I graduated college, I moved back home to enter the “real world” as a Special Education Teacher for children with autism. Nick lived in Syracuse for a year or so after graduation.
He then moved back to Long Island and started working in New York City doing sales. One night my girlfriends forced me to go out in New York City, I was very to myself and barely went out. I HATED the city because every time I went I would lose my phone and the night never ended well, until this night. This is when I met Nick, 4/13/2013 (I will never forget that date) and it was an instant connection. That night, he asked my best friend for my number and asked me out on a date. Fast forward a year, we moved into Brooklyn together where our love story truly began. The photos show all the love, even two pictures of where he popped the question! OH and did I mention-Nick was my FIRST boyfriend! :)
how they asked
Our love story truly began in Brooklyn. We LOVED Brooklyn so much, but our favorite spot was in DUMBO, Brooklyn at the Brooklyn Bridge Park. We visited this area often during my school breaks. At this time, we have been dating for over 4 years. A few weeks ago, my brother-in-law texted my family and I telling us he won tickets at his job for a boat cruise around NYC. I was so excited and couldn’t wait to go! To throw me off, they told me we were celebrating my mom’s birthday. Nick organized an amazing all day event and had a limo pick up our families from Long Island to go to Brooklyn. The crazy part is, the whole family knew, but my mom! So, when the limo showed up at my house my mom was so confused, but when she saw Nick’s parents she then realized we were getting engaged. Nick told me the boat was leaving from the Brooklyn Bridge Park. So when we got out of the uber, we walked to the pier and he said, “Let me take a picture of you before we go on the boat” and of course I said sure!
He then said I have something for you, this is when he got down on one knee! I was in complete shock and loss for words that I told him to “shut up”. Our families were walking up as it all happened. The limo was waiting for all of us with champagne, but that wasn’t it. He then surprised me once again with all my best friends at our favorite restaurant in Little Italy. The whole day was amazing and I couldn’t have imagined a more perfect day. My first boyfriend and now my last everything!
